An unusual problem.

I have an '04 G35 Coupe with 18 inch tires.Michelin Pilot Sports are on it now & I really like them. I'm 76 years old & my son gave me this car with 40,000 kilometers or 27.000 miles on it. I really like the car. He didn't drive it in the winter. I live north of Toronto in the warm months & go to Florida from mid-Dec to the end of March.
I've read most of the Tire Threads & I see that these summer tires are next to useless when it gets cold & snowy so I guess I'll have to put other tires on it in October cause it gets cold up here. I don't want to put snows on the car as I'll leave for Florida in a few months so...........I'm figuring the answer is to go to hi-performance all-seasons which (hopefully) will get me through the cold & snow but still perform decently in the heat.
Is my thinking correct? Any different thoughts? Anyone got any experience/advice regarding what I'm trying to do? Any specific tire recommendations...I seem to be heading towards Micheln Pilot Sport A/S Plus after looking at Tire Rack? Any recommendations about good places too get tires in Toronto/Ontario/Canada? Your advice will be appreciated. Bill

We don't get snow in October!

If you think about it, we've been pretty lucky and haven't got snow till very late Nov/ early Dec. I am sure you will be able to to drive around on those tires for that short amount of time.

Welcome to the family of bad *** cars!

Doesn't sound like you have much of a problem here. You're headed in the right direction. Can't really go wrong with Mich PS's from tirerack.

Real experiences please

Hi & thanks for your responses.
I guess what it boils down to is the things I've been reading about how bad the G35 Coupe is in the cold & ice & snow scares me. It seems even with full snows on it's still pretty bad. And I can't put snows on because then I drive to Florida in mid-Dec. & I don't want to drive in snows down there. And I have to go through Michigan & the Ohio Valley & over the mountains just to get to Georgia. So what I'd really appreciate is any input any of you who have actual driving experience in cold snowy weather with all-seasons can give me.
Maybe I'm unduly concerned but at the moment I'm concerned about what I'll face next winter. Thanks for your help! Bill

Since you live in the GTA you should go to the regional section, we have our own canadian section that can give you recommendations where to get tires. American prices are usually different from ours.

I believe most of the Canucks and folks in the the northern part of the US all run winter tires and that's what I'd go with as well.

I'd use them too but it means I'd end up on snows in Florida for 3 months when the temperature is in the 90s. If I bought new summer tires in Florida then I have the problem of how I get the snows home for my use next year.
I know it's less than ideal but I think I have to try all-seasons but I'm not sure which ones are best.....probably Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus....but they're expensive.

Anyone have any recommendations on good places to buy tires around Toronto/Barrie? Thanks. Bill

If you plan on running summer tires, I'd recommend you pick up a cheap set of rims and dedicated winter tires, and swap them as needed.

In terms of tools, all you would need is a basic floor jack, a breaker bar, deep socket, and torque wrench. Inexpensive versions should cost less than $100 USD total.

You would be able to swap the wheels yourself in under 30 minutes easily, and 4 wheels will fit inside the car if you need to transport them.
