need help with strange treadwear
Hi all you wheel and tire experts. Yesterday, I decided to pull of my stock 19" and test fit my new wheels. In doing so, I noticed a strange treadwear in the rear tires. Take a look at the picture. I put an arrow where the tread dips down. Looks kinda weird to me. My suspension is factory, tires are factory. Front tires look fine (a lot less wear, obviously) I purchased the car at 18k and have about 21k on it right now. Not sure if this is an alignment issue or what. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!
As one who learned as a child about weird shoe heel wear [mild pidgeon toed], tires are so much easier to correct.
ANY Camber changes the loaded shape of the tire contact patch.
Postive camber wears the outside, negative camber wears the inside.
Unfortunately sitting still alignments don't tell you what's going on rolling at speed.
Factory engineers test and develop misalignments [sitting still numbers] to correct for changes at speed.
Oem specs are great when all components are new but become progressively less accurate as runner bushings wear or arms bend from stress.
Some ultra premium tires are actually reinforced on the inside assumming that there will be more negative camber to better equalize wear.

My 2004 G35 coupe has the same problem, but a totally different area of wear. The inside of the Driver's rear tire is worn and chopped like crazy... Suspension is totally stock, but have 20"x10" wheels with 275/30/20's on the rear.
I got an it aligned 3 months ago when we rotated tires and it is really bad on that driver's side... The noise is horrible also.
Should I go to a dealer for alignment or would a stock rear suspension need any kind of camber kit???

looks like that the center is worn more then the outsides. my guess would be that it was over inflated in the past so the center wore down and at some point in time the pressure was dropped to normal so now the center sits a bit low.
Unfortunately this is the norm for most Coupes from 03-07 with factory rims. Infiniti had issues with this and in many cases has given tires to the customers as "good will". However, the problems persist with the middle treads wearing prematurely on the rear tires of the Coupes. Do a search and you will be amazed at this issue. The only thing you can try is different brands of tires. The real problem (although Infiniti will not admit liability) is that the factory rim is too narrow for the tire it recommends. Many will say it's overinflated, but that is BS. Good luck.
