wait, so with the tire size calculator, i need to compare the front tire size i currently have with the rear tire size that i WANT??
what i did was put in the stock rear size (i currently have the stock rear size) and tried to find a wider size for the rears that would work
did i use the calculator wrong?
EDIT:
all i want to do is find a larger size for the rears that will work with my 245/35/19 that i have in the front

Yes you did. In order for the VDC to not freak out, you want all 4 tires to be the same approximate diameter, less than 3% difference.
If you keep your current tires go 255/35/19. That only gives you a 1% difference:
25.75" vs. 26.02".

I also noticed that 245/40/19 is the OEM rear tire spec where as the 245/35/19 is actually the current front tire spec as mention in the OP and NOT the OEM front tire spec.
the 245/35/19 was probably used to match the 225/40/19 OEM front tire spec size.
To stay within 3% of OEM specs: Run 245/35/19 in the front and 255/40/19 in the rear.

I noticed this as well.

now that i'm a little more familiar with the calculator thing, it looks as though 245/35 front and 255/35 rear will be closer to factory specs than a 245/35 front / 255/40 rear setup would be

REAR OEM tire spec is 245/40/19 NOT 245/35/19!!!!
245/40/19= 26.71"
255/35/19= 26.02"
255/40/19= 27.03"
27.03-26.71 = 0.32" difference. 255/40/19 is bigger than OEM by .32"
26.71-26.02 = 0.69" difference. 255/35/19 is smaller than OEM by .69"
