Unusually quick tire wear?

So since buying my car back in early June of '09, my car has seen two new sets of 255/40/19 tires for the rear wheels. The first set that I picked up in mid-August were Michelin Pilot Sport A/S that lasted ~5K miles before going completely bald and the current new sets (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus) have about 4K miles on them and are quickly depleting. I had my alignment done when I picked up the first set and everything was in spec and I am on stock suspension. I always check my tire pressure when the air in them is warm and make sure that they sit around the 31/32PSI mark. I don't do any aggressive driving with the car and most of the driving is just daily driving around town.

I understand if tires on this car lasts 10K-15K miles, but 5K is unacceptable especially for a $300 tire. Has anyone else had this problem and found a remedy for it or maybe found a tire that can last longer than 6K miles on the OEM 19s?

What is your toe set at? Check the specs you got after the alignment was done. Is it inner tire wear, outer, or all throughout the tire?

Eeek, that could be the problem, other than that, not really sure what else it could be.

no freakin way? sorry... just had too...

But its hard to say your alignment is in spec if we dont know what the final numbers are. Good alignment shops will always show you.

Do you think they'd have it in their system and would be able to pull it up?

My stock RE050A's lasted for 24k miles. If you are going through tires within less than 10k, then either your camber is way off, your toe is way off, or both. It should be easy to see whether your camber is off. If you haven't noticed, chances are its not that bad.

95% sure its your toe being out of spec.

I have never gotten more than 14,000 miles out of my rears with conservative driving and proper tire pressures. Luckily I don't drive much more than 8,000 miles a year or I would have sold my car years ago. Our cars are known to eat through the rear center areas of the tires. Although the insides and outsides of the rear treads will still have meat, the tires become useless. It's common on most 03-07 Coupes. Fronts of course wear on the insides while the rest of the tire can go along way.

Can be toe, camber, inflation or driving style.

inside wears horrendously quickly where as the the outside still have plenty of meat. I'm about even with the wear marks on the tires now after about 4K miles.

bocatrip - I sorta saw why the front's inner tire wears out prematurely sometimes while I was changing my brakes last night. If you look behind the fender, there's a suspension component (looks like some sort of A-arm or equivalent) that sits maybe ~2 inches above the inside of the tire. I can see how a lowered car would be subjected to inner tire wear cuz of that.

Well, I got my alignment redone under warranty after picking up yet another set of tires under warranty (yay Michelins) and here's what I got.

little hard to see, but it shows that my right side is still out of spec. I'm guessing I'll be in need of a camber kit? My suspension is all stock btw.
