235/50/17 on Sedan

Anyone try this - please comment on changes in turn in, traction and ride quality. The side wall height is very similar to the 215/55 i believe. CAn someone confirm with their own math.

Re: 235/50/17 on Sedan

This is the tire size the Tirerack states is the largest you can go safely. I run 245/245 17s Toyo Proxes 4 and have no issues. They are not close to the height of the 215 though. I love the 245s...got grip everywhere

Thanbks for the input - do you have a pic of the sidewall? IS it noticeably better traction and turn in any better?

Ps toyo HP tires will be a lot diff than the all season i will be purchasing - any any brands you guys can throw out there would be appreciated for this size in all seezuns. Michelen is the way to go for AS tires i've always heard and found to be true so far. Anyone like the MX energy series?

Re: 235/50/17 on Sedan

I replaced my EL 42s with the KUMHO ECSTA KH II
235/50/17s. Much better than the POS EL 42's
Ride quality is pretty good. Road noise isn't as quiet as I
would like, but these are not luxury tires. Traction is good in
wet. During the install at Discount Tire, I set the OEMs side
by side. These are nearly identical in height, a tad wider.

Any bulge. So do you get some performance for your road noise...is it a good tradeoff. I love silence at 70. I think my radio has been of for a month.

Re: 235/50/17 on Sedan

My Toyos are all season. They are much quiter than the Pilot Sports A/S(225/50/17) I replaced them with and the ride quality is much better. I really thought that Michelin were the best, now I just feel that I would never buy them again as they seem over priced and provided less overall comfort. My Toyos grip better but they are wider. The side wall is slightly lower than the Pilots but the ride quality is sooo much better. The raod noise is about 40% less that the Pilots as well. The Toyos only set me back a $108 each vs. the Pilots @$198 each. Remember its your car buy what you like and names you trust.

Re: 235/50/17 on Sedan

I ahve no issues with Toyo but no experience. On a 1984 supra my freind was unhappy is the only thing I can draw from experience wise. Sounds like a good deal even if they aren't perfect but you make them seem much better than the EL42's. Are the pilots made in all season variety? I've never shopped the PS's.

Re: 235/50/17 on Sedan

Toyo has recently released TPT (high perf touring) in 235/50-17 size. Min rim width - 6.5', recommended -7.5', max - 8.5', so I think we're ok to use them.

Toyo also has 500 mile trial on them. If you don't like them take it back and the only thing you have to pay for is installtion labor. I'll wait till my GS-Ds wear out and swap them for TPTs.

Re: 235/50/17 on Sedan

The pilots I had were the All Seasons. Pilot Sport A/S in 225/50/17. I think the Toyo are much better. I put 16k on the Pilots and I was never impressed but they had great dry traction and very good wet. The Toyos are better all the way around. I took a chance on Toyo and I am glad I did. You will have to decide what is right for you. I love my Toyos. I have the Proxes 4s and got them from Treadepot.com. They took a week to get though. The price kicked ***-Les Scwaub wanted $211 for each and I only paid $108.

Re: 235/50/17 on Sedan

I was looing at the proxes. What's costs on TPT's? The TPT last for 65,000 under warranty so they seem to be less traction more longevity...I'm happy with a 35k treadwear all season. Toyos are looking good
