MRR or JBL Apollo

Hey guys,

So ive owned a set of 19x8.5F 19x9.5R MRR GT1's for about a year and a half now and I can't tell you how pissed I am. After storing them through the winter months (washed and polished, sitting next to the car in the garage, heated garage mind you) the polished lip oxidized terribly.

So now I have a major problem, rims too messed up to even mount on the car with pride, but a set of nitto neogens with approx. 3k miles on them. So, do I pay 650 bucks including tax to have them fixed, stripped, and powdercoated semi gloss black, or should I just say **** it and buy a set of the same spec JBL Apollo's for 1k and put the same tires on them.

I realize I trapped myself by buying cheap rims and got what I paid for: **** quality. I see the JBL rims as a good opportunity to not spend much money, but get a much higher quality wheel from a far more reputable manufacturer.

Any suggestions?

I had the same problem.. daym MRRs

What I did was strip the coat off the lips and polished them myself. The finish came out way more shiney!!

Tape up the face of the wheels. Only exposing the lips. Get a small paint brush and a container of paint thinner. Brush the lips of the wheels. In a couple of minutes the coating will desolve. Remove with a plastic object. Get some metal/alum polish. And polish away!.... good luck.. took me about 2 days on a weekend to complete.

Wow im not the only one. The process worries me a bit, I don't forsee it possible to clean them up this way though as some of the oxidized parts are fairly pitted and sorta deep. Also, how have they been now that you stripped the coating?

Do you have any pictures?

Thanks!

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
Sell those POS wheels and buy the JBL's. I see no reason to keep the poor quality and possibly have more issues in the future when you can upgrade for a little $$.
