winter tire size advise
Hey akoustic
They are Dunlop Winter 3D tires.. on Sport edition rims. Rims are not that great, but they are for winter and at least no scratches or damage. THe reviews on those tires are not too bad, what do you think ?
By the way I was told and read that my TPMS light would be on if I don't go to the dealer to have them reprogrammed. I have had my car on for more than an hour and light never came on. The tires do have TPMS, and I know that my TPMS works because i'd get the light from time to time when temperature dropped close to 0C on my stock summer tires. Any ideas? The tires came off 350Z

They should not be loose when sitting on the studs. If they are then you may be missing the hubcentric rings from the rims. You NEED those. These are little plastic or metal rings that mount on the inside of the hub-facing part of the wheel.
Tire Rack usually carries them and can send you a set. Just tell them what kind and size rims you have.
As for TPMS, the light will only come on once you've gone a certain number of miles in a single drive (i.e. before turning the car off). It's usually at least 20-30 miles. I have had a separate winter set w/o TPMS for 6 years and it's never been an issue.

The rims did come with plastic rings, but I was only able to put on 2 of them, the other 2 just did not fit, probably because of the rust that forms there natually. When I tigneted the lug nuts, however, the tires were not loose. Do you think I should take them off and try to put on the other plastic rings too ?
As for TPMS, I have done 15 miles at most in one trip for one hour without turning the car off and the light did not turn on
Thanks!
I would try to install them. Without them, you're relying only on the lugs to keep the wheel positioned properly (not the hub), which can accelerate wear on the hubs. If they don't fit you can lightly file or sand some of the rust away to make some clearance, or if need be, get a new set from Tire Rack.
I managed to fit the plastic rings on all wheels, and it got rid of the moving tire problem when the lugs were loose
Next step is to rust proof the car. Apparently it was never driven in winter before. Krown anyone ?

hey krypton,
I was looking into rust proofing my car. I don't know what type of solution is involved. If I'm not mistaken the solution they use can get a bit gooey. I don't want that stuff everywhere in my car. But that's only from my previous experience with rust proofing. Krown may use more advanced solution.
Let us know the result if you are going with the Krown.
Good luck!

I have a coupe non brembo on 17's and Ive called around everyone gives me a different answer. I see alot of you guys do the 225/50/16 225/55/17 I might try that. I was also suggested 225/50/17 all around? What do you guy's think?
yep i have the brembos. Only real difficulty for brembos to do 17s is the offset of the wheels. not all 17s will clear the front brembo calipers... otherwise you'd need spacers. Since you don't have to worry about that you should have a lot more options in hand.
