Snow tire size question

I just got an 03 G35(love the car!) and it's gonna be my daily driver so I gotta get some snow tires on there(live in NYC). My stock sizes are 225/50 17 front, 235/50 17 rear. Now, tire rack is out of stock on 225/50 17 blizzacks so is it ok if I use 215/55 17 front and 225/55 17 rear? I wanna order it right away and wanna be sure I getting the right size.

get 215/55/17 all around. narrower tires cut through snow/sleet better

I would but aren't the rear wheels on these cars wider than the fronts? I don't wanna go too narrow for the rim size.

this size is good up to 8" wide rim, but check with tire manufacturer to be sure. A bit of stretch will not hurt anything.
