Re: Official Winter Tire Setup - Submit Yours
If you plan to change out your own tires, I suggest you invest in one of these jacks.....1.5 ton low profile jack.....I got this for a steal with coupons and a discount, and it made my life much easier......
I was able to lift the two fronts and the entire rear with ease

Re: Official Winter Tire Setup - Submit Yours
a shot of how much clearance is available with this type jack. Although I had made a block of Oak to use to lift the car at the stock jack points, due to the uneven frame, the wood split. I jacked the fronts from the points directly behind the wheel well, and the back was lifted in one shot directly under the rear....

Re: Official Winter Tire Setup - Submit Yours
I took a look at Tire Rack for winter wheels/tires. I really don't care about looks during the winter and anyhow, I don't see many opportunities to wash my car during the cold months and I would be happy with steel wheels, but Tire Rack doesn't offer steel wheels for our Gs. Whazzup? I don't feel like spending $600-700 on crap rims to put my winter tires on. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

"You will need to remove the 12mm bolt and sleeve off the front hubs in order to mount any aftermarket rims"
this might sound silly but i'm not too clear on where the bolt and sleeve is? can you please provide a picture or some more details regarding this step in the tire changing process? i'm planning to follow in your footsteps and get the 225/55/17 dunlop m3s all around. thanks!

Car: Coupe, 5AT
Tire Make: Pirelli PZero Nero M+S
Tire type: All Season
Tire Size: 275/40/18 front & rear
Rim Size: OEM 18 x 8
Price Paid: $216/each on the car
Snow Handling: won't try unless I have to
Ice Traction: also won't try unless I have to
Dry Handling: excellent, better than the Pilots
Comments/Recommendations: In Eastern PA our roads are not covered with snow a lot (snows, gets cleared) so I wanted to compromise dry traction as little as possible while still have a tire with a tread pattern that can evacuate water and slush like an all-season tire. These tires have been excellent in the rain despite the size. I haven't tried them in snow and will probably only try them in my neighborhood for kicks. I expect the wide tire will float badly. I have another car that I drive in the snow, AWD, Dunlop Winter Sport M3, no issues.

Re: Official Winter Tire Setup - Submit Yours
Thanks WRAH, But if I had a Ford Explorer, This money would have gone for a set of PIAA'S and 19" tires........
Unfortunately, I really need the snow tire set up here in New Jersey. Even though we only get hit with one or two nasty snows, I still will feel more at ease driving with a winter set up....

Car: 6MT Coupe
Tire Make: Bridgestone Blizzak LM22
Tire type: Winter Performance
Tire Size: 245/45/18(rear) and 225/45/18(front)
Rim Size: stock 18" rims
Price Paid: $1180Cdn(includes shipping) for 18" rubber (From Big_h.... member on board here)
Snow Handling: Excellent so far
Ice Traction: Excellent so far
Dry Handling: Acceptable, they feel like winter tires, but since they are winter tires that is to be expected.
Comments/Recommendations:
I see no trouble with getting 18" rubber for winter, I live in Canada(snow on ground 5 months of the year) and have no trouble at all with my blizzaks. I am sure not too many of you guys drive on as much snow as I do, so take it from someone who does a lot of snow driving. If you live in canada and need a winter tire setup, check out Big_h aka Harry @ Bigwheelz.com, he had the best prices I could find in canada, and had the tires here in a day.....He is a great seller.
I will stress again like everyone else....DO NOT DRIVE ON THE PILOTS DURING WINTER......Safe driving all.

Re: Official Winter Tire Setup - Submit Yours
So I just installed the Blizzaks WS50 205/65 R16 with black steel rims. Thought I wouldn't care how they looked. Wrong again. The tires fit well but look terrible that narrow. The black rims are real ugly - I thought they'd be tough looking. Guess I'll look for some wheel covers.
The car drives ok but you sure do notice the loss of performance from the 18" Pilots. Looks like I'll have to grin and bear it for 4 months in the Canadian winter.
Guess if the tires weren't thrown in with the car deal I would have chosen a wider tire and better rim. I am expecting good winter traction for careful driving.
Regards
Gary

Re: Official Winter Tire Setup - Submit Yours
Mixing speed rating :
For those of you that went with Dunlop winter M3s and staggered, was there a concern of mixing different speed ratings ?? I noticed that the 50 profile is V rated (150mph, 240kph) while the 55 profile is H rated (130mph, 210kph). Since I don't even plan on driving to the H rating, I was just wondering is this causes a problem in handling, tire structure, tread design and pattern, etc ....
THanks
