Re: Official Winter Tire Setup - Submit Yours

??? The 225/50-17 and 225/55-17 should both be H rated. Thats what I show here. The M2 had a V rated version, but its long been discontinued in the front 50 series. Although very close in speed rating, you really should not mix them. But I still show they are the same.

Re: Official Winter Tire Setup - Submit Yours

Hey XCELR8 - how about if they were the run flat version, does that change the speed rating?

Re: Official Winter Tire Setup - Submit Yours

Depends on the size, but in this case no. They dont make a RFT version of the M3 in the rear size either. Mixing a RFT and non-RFT is a really bad idea!

*RFT = Run Flat Tire* :-)

Car: Coupe
Tire Make: Bridgestone Blizzak LM22)
Tire type: Winter Performance
Tire Size: 225/45/18 front, 245/45/18 rear
Rim Size: stock 18" 6MT rims
Price Paid: $950 (tires only, no mounting)
Snow Handling: Don't know - haven't tried them yet.
Ice Traction: Don't know - haven't tried them yet.
Dry Handling: Don't know - haven't tried them yet.
Comments/Recommendations:

I just bought these from Tire Rack a month ago. They're still sitting in my garage, and I haven't mounted them yet. I need to swap out my summer tires for these on the same rims in a week or two. I went with these based on many favorable reviews by G35 owners from last winter. I didn't need these last winter, as I was living in sunny SoCal then.

Question Can Someone Help Me Here??

Ok, I totally don't know what I am talking about here, but if you have 205/65/16 tires don't you need 16" rims?

Currently I can't drive my car in ANY amount of snow, it is fricking useless (Chicago). I want to get some tires/rims that will give me the MOST traction, looks / performance (other than their performance in snow of course) don't really matter. I have great tires for the non-snow months for that. So, I was thinking that the narrower the better, so I was looking at the 205's.

I have a 2003 Coupe w/ the sports pkg (18" tires etc).

Can I put the Blizzak WS50's on my car somehow? If so, what kind of rims do I need to get? (the cheaper rims the better, remember performance/looks don't matter, but $$ always does )

Any help?

My 2004 G35 Coupe Winter Config

I have a Black G35 Coupe with the Stock 17" wheels. Not a clue on what I was doing and not wanting to dish out over $2,000 CDN (we have 15% taxes here)...I went with:

Blizzak WS-50
Rear: 215/60/R16 (26.4" overall Dia. diff of .4% from stock)
Front: 205/60/R16 (26.1" overall Dia. diff. of .6% from stock)
Silver coloured steel rims - 16" of course.

Total incl taxes: $1,050 (installed too)

The silver steel rims look actually ok, but I look like I'm driving on spare tires. I live north of Toronto and the last 2 years have been quite snowy. So, for 3 to 4 months, I'll drive easier. I never had RWD before so I wanted to make sure I'll be ready for any snowfall.

Thumbs up

Car: Coupe 6MT
Tire Make: Bridgestone Blizzak LM22
Tire type: Winter Performance
Tire Size: Front - 225/45VR-18 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22
Rear - 245/45VR-18 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22
Rim Size: Stock 18" 6MT rims
Price Paid: $935 (Tires only from Tirerack, and about $120 mounting them in NTB)
Snow Handling: Great! 3 Snow storms no problem, stuck for 5 min only in a 3~5 inch thick snow parking lot after the snow storm.
Ice Traction: Done ice racing with them! GO SLOW!
Dry Handling: Nothing like the stock Pilot Sport, good enough thou.

Extra Comment: I wish I had gotten the tires abit later, since the Dunlop Sport M3 snow tires when on sale for around $80 each last year right after I got the LM 22.

WS50's

Your right the rims are 16" black steel. I've been driving on the Blizzack's a couple of weeks. No real snow as yet. They ride fine. I'm sure that I'll be happy with them. They just look crappy. I'm deciding wether to try a hub cap or leave them bare. Dealer wants $240 for caps. Tried the $50 Wall mart caps which were too loose. Might try to modify them or just forget it for four months.
Ideally I'd get another set of painted rims for winter but that looks like $800.

Regards
Gary

Just to let you guys know that after 2 months of constant research, both for rim sizes as well as tires, I finally made a choice and the winter setup is now in motion. For rims, I downsized from the OEM 18's to the OEM 17's, bought them off of eBay. As for the tires, I was originally going to go with the Blizzak WS50, but was concerned that the overall handling as well as wet and dry traction might suffer a bit. So I made up my mind to go with a Winter Performace tire rather than a Studless Ice & Snow. The choices were simple: Blizzak LM22, Dunlop Sport M3 or Michelin Artic Alpin. The LM22's and Artic's were the pricier of the 3, and I really liked the tread pattern of the M3's, so that's what I went with.

In terms of size of tire, the question was to stagger or not to stagger. I chose not to stagger, so I went with 225/55/17. This size tire is just about spec in the back, and about 3% off in the front. There are absolutely no issues with rubbing, VDC or TCS or even ABS. Everything works fine. How I know, I tried driving aggresively on snow covered roads to see how the various systems would perform with the car and those tires. No problems, everything works to spec...

Now I just need to see how the M3's will perform in a foot of snow, and trust me, here in Montreal, that is very possible within the next fews weeks....

You made a Good choice, I went with the same set up, but used ASA KA3 17.5x17" rims all the way around.....

I think the ride is descent, and have had no problems at all with this set up.......

I am quite satisfied with my choice, and I think these tires will perform quite well in the winter months here in New Jersey........

Guys, I need help. I tried putting on my winter setup yesterday and the front wheels wouldn't fit. I got my tires and wheels from tirerack. I got the 17in Blizzaks LM22's with the FOX 5 wheels. There is this ailignmnet stud or something sticking out of the rotors that won't let the wheel fit. Does anyone know what I need to do with this?
Help!!

Yes, remove the front locating pins. They should only be on the two front wheels. They are there so the guy at the factory didnt put the rear wheels on the front by accident. It should be a 12mm bolt and sleeve. I took mine off last year and have never put them back. Common part with a real easy fix. See the pic below. I'm working with my fitment team here at Tire Rack to get that warning printed on the invoice so people wont forget
