Upgraded 5AT rear brakes (finally) not 56k friendly
It took about 5 months to get the funds (I'm dirt poor), but here's my rear brake upgrade. My car's a 5AT, so pretty much anything is an upgrade from the stock brakes.
I had already purchased the 6mt OEM brembo calipers for the rear, painted them, painted the logo, and was waiting for the rotors.
Here's the OEM 5AT rotor next to the stoptech rotor. There's a bathroom scale in the corner. The 5AT OEM rear rotor is roughly 10 lbs. The Stoptech rotor is about 13 lbs. Not the most accurate scale, but it gives you an idea of the relative weights.
Here's the backside of the rotors.
Here's a closeup of the new rotor, it's a nice 2 piece floating design.
Here's everything mounted. The toughest part is cutting the dust shield. I had to go to Home Depot and get some metal snips for $10, that made the job much easier. I also installed Stoptech SS lines. I'm just using stock brembo brake pads, to not throw off the brake bias.
I'm still need to bed the pads, so I can't give a great driving impression yet, but everything bolted on perfectly.

no offense - the rotors look excellent - but I'm suprised anybody would by those damn rear stoptech rotors for what they're charging!

Incidentally, the calipers were $500, so total for the "brake kit" is about $1200.

lowrider, I got the rotors from Avalon Racing.
Moog, the rear calipers were $500. The fronts were $700. Retail is crazy at $700 for each rear, $900 for each front.
Dudefish, pedal feel is very good, but there isn't a huge change from before after changing the rears. I already had the fronts for a long time now. This is with daily commuting. I have found that the rear brakes don't heat up as much as they used to after the drive home.
Oh yeah, you probably could bleed the brakes without taking off the wheels, but you'll have to somehow reach the inboard bleeder screw as well. It would be easier just to take the wheel off.
