Time for New Tires

I have a winter tire setup but still looking for an all season setup. This is why I would skip on the Conti's. I have driven on Yoko Avid for a long time now but it is time for them to be replaced for the Spring.

03 Sedan

I have been looking at the General's but never heard of them but the test results and price look very attractive. Any other ones you guys like besides the Conti's DWS?

Contis and Yoko are going to be superior to the Generals for sure.

However Generals really aren't all that bad of a tire and are great value for the money.

BUT if you plan to drive the G through the winter without snows and keep the Gmax's on, then think again. You won't be going anywhere fast with those tires in Chicago's winter weather!

I would never plan to do that ever again. Once I drove the G with snow shoes I never looked back. Had too many close calls driving before that.

Yeah, I am thinking about them. They got good test reviews on tirerack. I am interested in the wet conditions mostly too. With the Yoko's my car slips a lot in the rain.

I haven't personally driven with the G maxes on a car but I've driven with the General UHP which were basically the predecessor to the Gax and they were great tires for the money!

I have been a fan of sears lately and been able to get cheap tires from them. This will involve stacking coupons, getting 6% cashback, free points and attempting a price match with another vendor. When you stack all those together you will get tires below cost.

The General has been a good performer since it came out. Kinda sits in the shadow of the DWS, but mainly cause people don't have dedicated snows. If you have a full set of dedicated snows then the General would be a better dry handling/responding tire compared to the DWS.
