18"oem coupe rims in the sedan
18"oem coupe rims in the sedan
Someone told me that sedan's VDC system supposedly cannot handle different-sized front and back tires. that if I want the oem 18" should get 2 pairs of the front rims, does anyone has the 18"wheels in a sedan? Is this true? Any comment or suggestion
Re: 18"oem coupe rims in the sedan
He's talking about coupe rims. The M45's 18" wheels are the same width, front and back. The G35 coupe has wider rims and tires in the back than in the front. This isn't a good idea on the G35 sedan, the front and back should remain the same.
I think I'm the one that mentioned the VDC problem to you. It's something I'd heard on these boards awhile back, and a service advisor at my dealership confirmed it, for what that's worth.
I suppose you could use two rear sets of coupe rims, too, depending on how wide you want your tires to be. Infiniti recommends a max width of 225. 235 shouldn't be a problem. A few people are going 245, as well, but I wouldn't go that wide on my car -- not sure if it'll rub against something. You might also want to look into aftermarket rims. You can probably find something cheaper and/or lighter weight that looks just as good. tirerack.com and discounttiredirect.com both can filter their inventory by what fits on your vehicle.

The fact is that the 18" coupe rims are stagered they are 225/45R18 W-rated front tire and 245/45R18 W-rated rear tire, I'm not sure if the diference is only on tires or the rear rim is wider.

I believe the rear rim is wider. There's a peg in the front wheel to prevent the rear rims from being mounted on the front axle. I can't seem to find the specs on rim widths for the coupe though to confirm this.

Everyone I talked too about putting these wheels on the car told me to stagger the front and back, but I did not want to because of not being able to rotate them.
Re: 18"oem coupe rims in the sedan
I read on some posts prevoiusly on this board that roating dosen't save that much tire... I was told that if you keep them at the correct pressure you should be fine..

I don't think the VDC is something the dealer can recalibrate. I was told that the module was programmed differently for the coupe.

You shouldn't have a problem either way. Of course the safer size would be 225/45-18 as it's a little closer to stock and the narrower tire definitely won't cause any rubbing problems. Depending on the offset, etc., the 245/45-18s should clear okay though. Check with your tire dealer to be sure and do a test fit

Re: 18"oem coupe rims in the sedan
Hey, guess what I just discovered. It's amazing what happens when you read the manual. Page 10-8.
The coupe 17's are different widths, 17x7.5 front, 17x8 rear. The 18's are 18x8, front and rear, 30mm offset. (The sedan 17x7's are at a 45mm offset.)
So, the concern I raised was moot for the 18's. You will want to run same-sized tires, though, whichever size you do pick.
Too bad they don't publish the rim weights in that handy manual....
