Just bought new tires

hey all,

just ordered a set of all season. I was told by the vendor that 245/40/19 front and 255/35/19 rear won't cause me any issues. haven't seen anyone running this set up though. would love your opinions.

This will go smoother if you include your wheel widths and offsets...

That combo would make the front tire close to an inch taller than the rear. Not great sizes to use together.

The front tire size you gave, 245/40-19, is 26.7" tall. The rear tire size you gave, 255/35-19, is 26.0" tall. Using them together would give the car an uphill look and more than likely disrupt the VDC controls. Wrong sizes to use at the same time.

Doesn't matter the weight/how much the suspension is compressed. Outside diameter of the tire will still remain same. That's what the cars computer goes by.

Stock wheels don't allow for a lot of tire size options due to their widths. Most you could do is 245/35-19 front and 245/40-19 rear or stick with the oe setup. A 255/35-19 will fit an 8.5" wheel, but its designed as front fitment in combination with a 275 or 285 rear tire. Not designed, due to outside diameter, as a rear fitment for the oe wheel.

The 04-06's are very touchy with outside tire diameters. If done wrong the VDC will trip and car will go haywire. Lots of threads on that around.

thanks for the reply.

how come some cars run a set up like this then? a smaller diameter in the rear, specifically rear wheel drive cars.

No problem. I know very little cars out there that run a taller tire up front compared to the rear. Really no performance advantage in doing so. Remember that the aspect ratio (the 35 in a 255/35-19) is a % of the tires width and that helps make up the outside diameter. Many times it may appear via the tire size numbers alone the fronts are taller when in reality the two dimensions are working together for a bigger purpose.

thanks for your insight its appreciated.

im reading and hearing different opinions regarding this amongst many different threads about tire size.

more input would be great.

the vendor advised me that it wont affect the vdc at all nor will it give me an "uphill" look. he seems very informative.
