Dropping car voids warranty?

I know this is probably the most worthless post that I'll ever write, but my old man is bitching at me because he says that by using 350z suspension that it will VOID the warranty on my transmission if there's an issue, etc. So for clarification sake, and to put my father at ease, what would be voided by changing suspension exactly?

Anything that fails and can be proven that it failed as a result of the aftermarket part(s) will not be covered by warranty.

I understand that, but how can you attribute the transmission failing from the suspension?? I just don't see how its related.

I've asked my dealer about this before. And basically he said what CrazyMike as just said. Probably your entire suspension/shock/spring system's warranty would be voided. But I don't see the transmission part as well.

Look at it like this: Is your dealer Mod friendly? Because anything not stock is always subject to void your warranty.

People say that dealer has to prove the aftermarket parts caused the problem, but any dealer can refuse to work on a modded car, or any car for that matter.

Really if they aren't mod friendly you have to fight them all the way. It will cost money and time.

If your going to Mod your car, or an area of your car. Always be ready to pay out-of-pocket for anything that goes wrong.

my dealer is pretty mod friendly so I can't complain too much. I just don't see how tranny is related to suspension dropped car.

I would say if your father footed the bill, he has final and absolute say on what goes on with his car.

Enjoy the privilage you have and just drive, drive, drive on your fathers dime

hahaha, hell no. I pay for my G all the way, he's just worried about me getting screwed with some kind of warranty work. I love him to death, but he's just not being realistic... unless someone can explain how your tranny has anything to do with being dropped.

Well then it is your car so do what you want. It shouldn't void your transmission warranty unless you get a suspension system which somehow messes up traction via Bad alignment/Bad Camber/Toe. However, like everyone says you have to pay to play.

In thinkin about it, it's actually not that drastic, as the springs are roughly the same as the ones from the Sports Suspension on the 350z suspension...

You're tranny is fine, you should get full warranty coverage.

If it's your car and you're paying for it, I think your dad can take a
few steps back and relax. You're responsible for the car. You break
something you pay, right?

My dad sure doesn't care what I do with my cars. Not even sure
if he even knows I have a G35C. (he's retired in Japan).

I wouldn't worry about it. And if something does go wrong, why don't you just re-install to stock before you take it to the dealership!

Changing ride height could afect drive line angles. Think of the angle the drive shaft has when it goes into the rear housing. If that angle is changed your transmission might bind at a different point or with more force than factory spec. I've had many jeeps that I have lifted and was reqired to get a different drive shaft with cv joints in order to keep the pressure off of the transmission and rear end. I couldn't imagine that it would make a difference on a dropped G35 in real life because of the small amount of change involved, but I can imagine a dealer throwing it around in order to not cover warranty work.

no matter how far you drop the car the angle in between the tranny and rear differential will not change. these cars have independent rear suspension and the differential does not move with the suspension. the only thing you have to worry about with these cars is getting them back into allignment specs after drop and with the 350 suspension he should have no problems with that.
p.s. when i took my car to get the passenger side alxe tsb done the dealer could care less that it was lowered or had any mods, and discover infiniti isn't even the most mod friendly dealer.
