Sedan + 350z Susp. + Sways + Stock Tires=SUCKS!

I'm now becoming a firm believer that the stock Turenza tires (17s non Perf package) are a limiting factor with my suspension work. I have my Sways set to Med/Med (Stillen) and the 350z suspension on.. but taking those curved onramp turns I feel the tires start to lose grip over 45-50mph...which causes me to slow down. I don't usually take turns that fast, but I am trying to test the suspension out. Handling is MUCH improved over stock though....Opinions?

I think you answered your own question. You need to invest in a good set of wheesl and tires to complete the job.

when the car's grip gives up is it balanced?

Do you feel that your speed around your favorite corners are less then before?

What tire pressure's are you running?

hey gsedan, i had a question. when you asked what psi hes running, does the higher mean more traction and stick to the ground more or is it the opposite? right now i'm running 44 psi all around cause that what is says on the tire MAX. i dont care about a comfortable ride. i want the most BEST suspension i can get out of it. i'm getting sways soon anyway.

Speed around regular corners seems pretty close, and MUCH tighter then it used to be... To be honest, I haven't even checked my psi in awhile... should be in the high 30s if I had to take a best guess.

If you ask me, I am going to tell ya that it must be the stock tires...
I just changed my Turanza to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and with this tire, there is so much more grip and less diving during cornering and braking.... The car feel so much tighter and stable that even my passengers (gf and frds) can feel the difference

Well I just want to rule out a too low psi that might be allowing excess sidewall flex and less of a contact patch. You can overinflate to, really the right PSI needs to be a pressure you get to on your own. You might want to drop 2psi and see what happens, let the tires cool overnight then drop 2 more psi and see, repeating til you have it ideal for you. I've been from 30psi to 47psi on my 18's. I found that 36psi works best for me. I'd like to set things by looking at tire temps across each tire, but that's a way's off for me, way too many other things to get done.

What is your current suspension setup?

You really should go out and check the psi, making sure the tires are cold.

Curious, tell me more about this statement if you can, "but taking those curved onramp turns I feel the tires start to lose grip over 45-50mph...which causes me to slow down".

It's a weird sensation, but it feels almost like the tires are sliding across a bit.. it also may be I', not used to taking turns at high speed so I'm not sure what to expect, for what it's worth...

Those Turanza's are sh!te. I had them on my X and due to a realllllllly soft sidewall when hitting on ramps and the like you can feel the flex as your a$$ shifts over on them. They just have way to much flexion (?) in them. I think Infiniti picked them cos they have a soft ride and they are also quite quiet.

Let's put it this way - they managed to make my Hankook K104's look good in comparison. Need I say more?

Actually the K104's (so far) aren't that bad. Tires are wicked expensive in Canada so they set me back 1200 CDN tax inc. where a set of something hot like sp9000's or KDW would have cost almost twice that.

But I digress. Ditch the Turanza's. They are definitely the weak link in your chain. There is a reason they are not the OEM tire on the Z you got your suspension from.

Since you are in Florida, you should get some summer or 3 season high performance tires and mount them on some nice 18" wheels.

Gsedan35- what the heck are you doing past 42psi cold?!!
hahaha car turns into a ballet dancer after that.

Typically 36-37psi cold works best for 18-19's above ~65F on
most tires.

tgenius - I think you're experiencing push-under. Try using soft setting on
your stillen up front and see how it turns. Using crap tires is a good way
to test sus response at low speeds. if it doen't turn well at low speed,
it's not going to turn well at high speeds either. Set the car up with those
crap tires, then go to something like S03's GS-D3's and your car will
turn like it's on rails (well, theoretically).

I think I am going to go with S03s when the time comes... these tires are horrible.. but I need to check the tire pressure.. my whole thing is I would rather not buy good 17 inch tires with the (possibility) of 18s or 19s in the future. I have 13k on the Turanzas.. so I figure they should be good for another 8-10k

Any issues with installing 350Z onto the G35S?

Tgenius, did you have to cut bump stops to get them to level right? How did the front to back look once everything is installed? How much did the car get dropped. I am thinking of doing the Z suspension as well. Please advise. Thx.
