HELP - "clanking" noise coming from right-rear suspension
I've done a search and found several discussions about a "clanking" noise coming from my sedan, but there hasn't been any final resolution posted back.
Here's what and when I'm experiencing. I have a 5AT sedan:
The noise is a loud "clanking" noise that sounds just like an old motorcycle shifting gears.
1. When going into "R" I hear it
2. I hear it in Auto or MM mode when stopping quickly or when accelerating from a complete stop. Gear selection doesn't matter.
3. I can repeat it at will. That's good so I can show the dealer.
I was able to determine that the sound is definitely coming from the right-rear suspension area. Since I can repeat the noise I had my wife go into "R" several times so I could find it.
Does anyone have any ideas for me to pinpoint the problem area? Since my dealer is 3 hours away I want to make sure they know exactly what to address, or maybe I could even do it.
Thanks and regards,
John

Check the tightness of the bolts that secure your camber and toe adjustment. These bolts have washers (they are oblong) on them to make toe and camber adjustments. Other then that, rule out that what you are hearing is not your rear axle's clicking.

No NO, i had the same problem.
Take it to the dealer. Just tell them EXACTLY wat you told us. If i remember correctly its the axel joints that are making noise.

I most recently have had this problem. There is a TSB for coupes that says to replace the outer axle joints and wheel bearings. Apparently there is a different TSB for the sedan. I tried for a LONG time to get them to perform the coupe TSB on my car to no avail. FINALLY, I took it to a different dealer, and they followed the TSB for sedans which says to remove the axles and lube them where they slip into the hub. It didn't make much sense to me when they told me that, but needless to say, the noise has been gone for about 2.5 weeks now, and I am HAPPY!!!! Also, ironically enough, my mother has a 2003 350z track edition, and she brought hers into the dealer for the same problem. They did the EXACT same thing to hers, and it has stopped as well.
