Previous owner ruined wheels...now what???
I'm a proud new owner of a 2003 G. Used but new to me. Anyway, the owner before me must have used some ridiculously harsh chemical to clean his wheels because it ate through the finish (pictures to come). I plan on buying aftermarket rims down the road but I still would like the OEM rims to look decent. I know I could get them repainted but if I'm going to do that I might as well just buy 4 new ones off ebay.
What do you guys think about taking each wheel off one at a time, taping them off so only the rim is exposed, take a fine grit sandpaper to the rims to get any of the baked on grit off (after I clean them of course), and then spraying them myself, say 3 times, with a high temperature paint. Do you think I could get away with that without making my wheels look like a home improvement project?
