Air Leaks Anyone?

I now have 35K miles and am hearing air leaks on the driver’s side for the first time at cruising speeds... My passengers started complaining of air noise on the right side near 30K, I could not hear them at all while sitting in the drivers seat, but now I definitely hear air on my side!

I cleaned the windows and all rubber very well and it seems better but above 70MPH the noise begins, many miles ago, I had to be traveling at 130MPH before I could hear anything, now it’s down to 70MPH

I hope this is not a sign of things to come... The noise is not loud and you cannot hear it at all while listening to music volume from "8" on up, but when I get a call or turn the music down, I hear the air noise

Any suggestions?

The best thing to do would have to be to take it into the dealer. they should fix something like that under warranty. A guy around where I live has lambo doors on his coupe and his hisses like crazy. Very ugly sound.

Best bet......take it to the dealer

I got 32k miles and mine is fine... *crossing fingers* I guess changing all the rubber seals around the windows might do the trick?

I thought about that but I really don't want the car torn apart like that and the seals look great, but when I cleaned them they sure were dirty and the noise did stop for a couple of days, so now I'm thinking maybe the proper cleaner and lube may fix the air leak...

I'm willing to try some things before I take it in and have them replaced or whatever they plan to do about them. Chances are, someone knows what to do and we will find out in this thread, hopefully!

It might be that the doors need adjustment to align them again (as new), but I'd be inclined to get myself some "Rubber Protection" to coat the rubber seals and make them soft and supple again.

The one I have is called "Gummi Pflege" and is available at any BMW dealer. ($6.)
It works very well on all rubber surfaces including door seals, sunroof seal, and trunk seals.

Another vote for cleaning. It could also be that the window position needs resetting.

I though about door and window positions but after very close inspections the fit, finish, seems, everything related are perfect just as when the car was new... I tried the paper test all over the windows and I cannot slide the paper anywhere between the window and seal so the fit is pretty tight everywhere, it just will not hold the pressure and\or suction of the air passing by.

Also, cleaning the seals did help so I think that and something to lube the seals may do the trick... I hope so.

What did you clean them with? I use wd-40 on a towel and it works wonders on my sunroof seal.Just make sure if you use it to go back over with just a damp towel to get rid of most of it.

Let me know how the cleaning turns out. Mine leaks and I only have 12,000 miles on my car.
