Specks of tar on my DPEs

There seem to be little specks of tar or just stubborn brake dust stuck to the inner barrel of my DPEs. I tried to scrub them off with soap and water, but no dice.

I'm hesitant to use any kind of cleaner since it might ruin the finish. Any ideas on how to get this stuff out?

I have polished lips. Specks are on the barrel of the wheel, behind the spokes.

The mag/alum polish works for this? Guess I'll try it since it's advice from a fellow DPE owner. Thanks Rash.

For the barrel, you can use the mothers polish, do not however use it on the spokes
