Cool Nitto 18"

Anyone runnibg 18" Nitto's on the coupe?
Like to know how they ride
Are they directional or non

I want to change out my pilots to a good non directional
but hard to find.

Help would be great.

Thumbs up NT Extremes

Kimo - I have the Extremes ( 245/40/18 F & 275/35/18 R ) & really like them. They R directional, have low road noise & ride fairly well on my iForgeds. They handle well ( wet & dry ) ONCE THEY'RE WARMED UP!! When I first pull out in the morning they're pretty greasy & it takes about 5-10 miles of rollin' to bring them around. I was surprised that they weren't included in last month's Car & Driver tire tests. I have 16k+ hard miles on them & they look capable of another 16k. Well, I can't really say that for the rears. After a year of nitrous they will need replacing in about another 8-10k but think what they're gonna look like after the stroker Vortech motor goes in!!

Nitto has yet to show me performance tires... all of them have the
tendencies of breaking loose at the limit abruptly without warning and that
limit is only about the grip of a/s tires from other manufacturers.

no offense intended, just my personal experience. they look good though.

Exclamation Agree to a Point

Ken - I have a friend who had the Nitto NT-01's on his Eclipse & he said the same things happened whrn he autocrossed - the tires would stick & stick & then suddenly break loose w/o warning! I can't say that my Extreme 555's have demonstrated that quirk ( yet ) but I'll probably move to the Goodyear Eagle F1's when the Nittos wear out. I'll post feedback when I make the switch & get some miles on the F1's.

450's

I've got a set of 450's on my miata. 17" with 40 series in the front and 45's in the back. Personally i love them on my miata and have been surprised at the mileage i've gotten out of them. I have not been impressed with the 19" Potenzas on my '05 coupe. I've got 18K miles on them and will be ready to get rid of them....

well, if you want milage and good looks, i guess nitto's are your choice.

but again, ive yet to see "PERFORMANCE" out of them including the NT555,
NT501, NT450's. NT501's were a nightmare.

I had a set of NT450's on my stock 17's (before I sold them)......I will never buy another set of Nitto's again. Very noisy and performance was nothing to write home about. Always felt like they were going to break loose even when going around corners at moderate speeds.

The only thing I liked about them, was the nice square sidewall.

IMHO, steer clear of them.....my 2 cents.
