Just found a nail in my front left tire

Just found a nail in my front left tire
now what?! The clutch problems acted up yesterday and now a nail in my front tire? Damn!
So guys what should I do about this? I've searched and read posts, some say that it can be patched some say not because of speed ratings whatever that is.
What are the consequences if I were to continue driving with that nail lodged in there.
Some input please.

It's been almost what...2-3 months since I've patched it up and it runs beautifully! Even at high speeds (excess of 100mph) and long distance trips (600 miles). Have to take it to one of those stores that don't care about liability. I took mines to Just Tires. haha

some pics would be helpful. if the nail is in the sidewall, you will need a new tire. if it's in the thread itself - patch it easily with a tire repair kit. in any case, take it to any gas station that has a small shop, they'll patch it in 5 minutes, or tell you to get a new tire.

really depends on where the nail is...
if it's on the sidewall, you'll need a new tire. otherwise, you should be able to patch it up. I've had both happen to me.
as for still driving it, you should be ok for a just a little while. I drove around for a few days not realizing the nail was in the tire. The tire pressue light came on, so I put air in the tire, but realized it was a nail after the light came on again a couple days later.

I just did mine last week. Just go to Kragen and buy a tire patch kit ($10). It's got a screw driver-type tool that you tread a patching material through (material looks like a Slim Jim, but don't eat it or you'll probably die). You jam it into the tire where the hole is and pull it out. The patch material stays on the inside and then all you do is fill it with air and test it. Make sure you keep an eye on it over the next couple of days and check your tire pressure all this time to make sure that the patch job was done successfully though.

Take it to a shop like STS tire or something...or something like Firestone. Although getting it patched technically voids the speed rating, I think you're still good at "reasonable speeds." So unless you need to go 120 all the time, a patch is fine and should run you around $20-30 at a shop.
