How much do these performance tires...

...cost. If you were to buy them seperately from a store. Is it just worth getting the wheel and tire package?

Re: How much do these performance tires...

The Performance Wheel/Tire package is a steal even at the 2004 prices (I think $900 up from 2003 $650).

The Michelin tires will run you about ~$300 each for the rears and about ~$250 each for the fronts. That's not including the price of the wheels. If you like the looks of the factory 18's, it's a great deal, plus you get the LSD (at least on the coupe).

However, if you don't like the wheels, it's not the best bargain, but I bet you could sell the factory 18's for more than the $900 the package costs and you'd still have the LSD.

My bad... I just checked the infiniti site and the LSD is available on the ALL performance packages.

Limited Slip Differential (a locked rear end). In slipery situations, when one wheel can get traction and the other can't, the power will go to the wheel with the traction. Without LSD, the power would go to the wheel without traction, and it would just spin.

The Nissan/Infiniti LSD is a viscous (sp?) differential and not a 'true' (locker) mechanical (clutch type) LSD so it's not as effective/efficient as mechanical types (like what's referred to as PosiTraction in the GM world) but it is better than nothing at all. I'm not sure if a true mechanical LSD is available in the aftermarket for the 350Z/G35, but that would really be for hard core enthusiasts, IMHO. For me the viscous LSD should be enough.

Re: How much do these performance tires...

"positraction" is not a locker either
it just stops the power to the spinning wheel and supplies power only to the wheel with traction.

a true "detroit locker" mechanically locks the differential to allow both wheels to spin at the same rate if one is slipping. the detroit locker is very harsh and abrupt in its action. the viscous on the g operates in the same locker manner but the viscous action smooths out its operation.
