My car is a 04 coupe and it has 105k KM's so 65k miles and it just drinks oil....from being at full oil level, if I go to school and back once our twice (15 km one way) the oil level will go down to be a bit above half. Since I got my oil change (which was 5w30 amsoil synthetic) I have used a full 5L bottle of 5w30 synthetic to just top it off every time it finishes and it has only been 2.5k Km's since oil change. I dont really understand how the car can burn this much with this low mileage, next oil change I will try 20w40 non synthetic and see if it helps, also my exhaust tips get black very fast due to the oil burn.

Ya I drove it last winter and it did very well for a RWD car but I hate rust and I see small signs of it on my rear quarter panels, so I will just get a winter beater. Thanks for the help I will try this next oil change, is there a brand that I should use or just any? thanks

2004.5 Infiniti G35 coupe 6mt RWD 108,300 miles (purchased at 99,900) is burning a quart of oil in 200-500 miles. Now idle is getting rougher. Idles around 600-640rpm (sometimes drops to 550-580 quickly) and used to be 680-740 range. Coolant level has also been dropping recently. (Head gasket maybe? but could it cause this much oil consumption) Have oil build up on exhaust tips as well.
Put an oil catch can on and replaced pcv and drove 140 miles and am already about .5 quart low. Tried cleaning throttle body, fuel injector cleaner, have k&n filter and MAF is clean no Check engine lights. Just replaced transmission fluid with redline as well.
Had no issue all winter (did see light flash once on a fast stop but had oil change planned for the following day and had no signs besides that). I did run with a bad O2 sensor for a couple months though.
Just bought 0w-40 mobil 1 to see if that helps at all but school is coming up and I cant afford the car to go bad during the school year (commuter). Any advice appreciated. I drive conservatively for the most part shifting at 3000 rpms and downshift when coming to stops but my downshifts don't pass 3100rpms. Occasional spirited driving but haven't really revved hard except for when I was just learning stick and threw it in 2nd instead of 4th and red lined but that was 7 months ago.

So I know that this thread has been inactive for a while but I am looking to fix the problem at least as best as I can. So I live in Charleston, SC. I was going to change my oil type to 10W-40. I was also going to put an oil catch can on the engine. In order for this to be most effective, it needs to be a baffled catch can, yes?
Thanks for the help.
