New Q50S after G35S
I had a 2007 G35S since new and put over 91000 miles on it. I really liked that car so I bought a new Q50S. I feel like I still have my G35S only its new and better. The Q50 drives the same except it feels tighter and more solid, The new electronics are really nice once you get used to them. The interior is nicer because the seats support more and the finish is better so it wont come off on the arm rests and steering wheel. Hopefully this forum will still include the new Q50 since it is a great addition to the G legacy.

It is actually pretty simple. New CEO for Infiniti came from Audi and is following their nomenclature. They want to promote consumer familiarity with entire model range. Almost no one outside of enthusiasts know the difference between G,M,JX,FX,QX ect. By using a single prefix, each model level is instantly identified by its value.
Many luxury car owners drive cars as status symbols (3,5,7 series). The higher the number, the more well off that person is. Gives free ego boosts to valued customers (ie those willing to pay most).

Great explanation! I think its just such a large shift from what we are used to. Once all of the old models are gone it should all make more sense.....hopefully.

It is interesting to compare the success of the Q50 vs the G35 sedan when it came out in 03.
I think the G35 sedan (03 or 07) put a slightly larger ripple in the market when they were introduced compared to the Q50. Reviewers nor the market seem to really be taking to it.
I drove it, and honestly it felt a lot like the G with worse steering. Fit and finish was better but I am not big on the two screens.
If you are happy then that is all the matters lol. It is a nice looking car though, so get some pics up.

The Q50 is nice and all but it is not a G. This car is not a replacement for the G37 sedan, the G37 is still being produced for the next year or so. This is a new flagship car, the EX will be stretched an extra 3 inches in a year or so, about 2 more years before the M completely gets refaced and the FX will also be refaced as well. We should be getting a Q90 coupe around 2018 which is worded to be a 600+ hp coupe. The biggest drawback to the Q50 is the drive by wire steering(only 51% of the Q50 models have this)

My issue is that I'm interested in a bigger change. And right now Infiniti doesn't have what I'm interested in.
When I've bought a "new" vehicle through the years, there have been changes. The smallest change was from the 95 Taurus to the 04 G35
If I'm happy with the car I'm driving, the easiest and cheapest way to do that is to delay a purchase for at least another year. Which I've done several times now with my 04.
I'm now thinking of something with a little more room in the back, still with good handling, but better fuel economy than Infiniti currently has.
