This is NOT a thread to discuss whether or not to dip my car. I also do Not need to hear about anyone's opinions on the subject what I want is to know from those that have used plasti dip.

I am considering plasti dipping my car in Anthracite Grey with a pearlizer. Mostly as a temporary fix till I graduate and get established in a career. My primary question is how long does it last and how does it fail? The website says that it should last three years but does it really? Secondly for those that have used the pearlizer did you use it in all of your coats or just the final coat and how did it effect the color? Are there any issues with painting over primer instead of paint i.e. to much or not enough adhesion? Please let me know any other tips or thing I should know and Pictures would be very helpful. Plastidip does last for around three years, coverage and thickness will be the key. My g was dipped before I got it and I removed it and it did Peel the paint but I just had the car repainted. The reason why it peeled is due to the fact that some infiniti cars are known for soft paint (in the dip world). Plastidip has been proven time and time again but constantly gets a bad rap due to inexperienced users making their cars look like crap and blaming the dip instead of blaming the technique.

 

Paint peeled? That's disturbing to hear. I wonder if different removing technique would have prevented that, or perhaps a better initial application process.

I'm planning to dip my entire car in couple of months for a month long road trip I got planned. That's some new info to consider.

I just got a quote from local shop (that is listed on dipyourcar as installer) for dipping entire car in candy pearl with high gloss finish for under 1k. That is absolutely not bad considering that supply will run you about 300-400 bucks.

 

I wonder if it has anything to do with the "scratch hider" paint that G's had. Supposed to make light surface (clear coat) scratches disappear.

 

that stuff is different. I believe that Nissan had some sort of clear coat developed that would heal micro spider scratches as it is exposed to warmth or sun. Another thing they got going on for Leaf is water repellent clear coat, something similar to NeverWet.
This is just rubber paint, it's rough to the touch (unless you spray glossifyer on it) and in my experience (I had a grilled sprayed with it a while back) stand up quite well to rock chips. It literally does not chip.

So In my case I'm considering it for the duration of the road trip just for it's anti chip qualities.

there is a product called Glossifier

It like a clear coat. They more layers you spray the glossier it gets.
It's sold at hardware stores in spray cans

 

I have read about this. I watched the YouTube channel, dipyourcar, and they said it was a bad idea to spray any kind of clear over dip IF you ever want to remove it.

Glossifier is a plastidip product that gives gloss to plastidip.
Clear coat will render your plastidip non removable.

So there is a difference between a clear coat and glossifier.
