Better sound from the coupe Bose system
For those contemplating a speaker update for their Bose system, last month I had replacement speakers installed in my G35 coupe. This was done by forum contributor el_duderino at his shop in Portland. I was never really impressed by the stock Bose system, finding it somewhat flat and “lifeless”. So in my search for better sound I found el_duderino through the forum.
After talking to el_duderino about my wants on sound he recommended me to try his own direct replacement speakers. The front separates were replaced along with the 6x9’s in the rear deck. The rear fill were left in place. Install on the front was fairly simple, take the door panel off and the speakers were direct bolt on’s (or at least it looked simple as Justin did the work
) Getting to the rear 6x9’s was a whole different matter, that required dismantling most of the rear panels and trim.
After listening to the new speakers I have to say that the sound is better, although I did lose some volume since the replacement speakers are 4 ohms, but it does not really bother me much since I don’t listen to my music all that loud anyway. Volume at 20-22 is plenty loud for me, usually is at 14-16. There are actually defined highs and midrange now and the 6x9’s are actually putting some bass; off course not as low or loud as a sub box, but is better than the stock Bose. I have also been fading completely to the front at the suggestion of el_duderino. Having the stock fill on the rear side as given me an easy way to compare the stock setup, which now sound as “clear as mud”. Yeah I know I am comparing separates to coaxials, but is very noticible how much cleaner and defined the new front speakers sound.
All in all I have to say that is a worthwhile upgrade if you want better sound from the Bose system but don’t want to go through the hassle of doing a new HU and amp.
Many thanks to the Ken (el_duderino) and Justin for the new speaker setup.
