Question About NON Bose System
Question About NON Bose System
Hey guys I recently installed the Avic Z1 in my car and the stock speakers on the NON bose system just doesn't sound too good. I was thinking about getting these and wanted to know if they were good for midrange bass/clarity:
For front: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Polk-...oductDetail.do
For rear side: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Polk-...oductDetail.do
I don't know much about speakers so I hope this isn't a stupid question but I was wondering if anyone knew if I could add 6x9's in the rear like the Bose system? Specifically do the non bose G35's have the cutout for the 6x9's???
Thanks in advance

for the first set of speakers, those wont sound too great unless you run an amp to it. (it may sound alright but unless you run an amp, you won't be utilizing the full potential of those speakers)
your second set of speakers, you should consider installing some reg. 6.5" ,cux the 4" speakers will not fit perfectly
the 6x9, i don't know from personal experience but i've heard that its a biatch to install 6x9...cux theres nothing to screw down the speakers, you need to custom fabricate everthing

how bad does it sound? i am about to get a Z1 and was gonna run stock speakers....i have a non bose stereo car also
First of all, if you install the Pioneer Z1 on a non-bose stereo, the sound quality will increase quite a bit because of the increased amplication on the after market head unit. It will sound pretty much like the factory bose stereo. (I know because I just installed a Z1 on my non-bose also)
Second, as far as after market speakers go, all speakers in the non-bose stereo are 6.5" front and rear. Yes, you can run after-market speakers to factory head unit or the pioneer head unit. But, it will sound worse than you are right now with factory speakers. It will sound clearer, but you will not be able to crank it up, due to lack of power to the speakers. If you do crank it up you will have distortion and eventually blow your speakers. The Pioneer Z1 states 50 watts x 4 on amplification, but it actually dose about 10 watts x 4 constant, which is not enough power for any premium after market speakers. So, for new speakers an amp is a must. There are no shortcuts in autosound, you get what you pay for.

I have the Bose, and I would not call that a big improvement. As you suggest, get good aftermarket speakers, even 100 a pair jobs, and the improvement should be noticeable right away. They will handle more power, but are more efficient than the standard or Bose drivers, besides.

I have a non-bose stereo as well. Do I need anything specific to install Z1 or can I just tap into the speaker wires. I remeber with Bose system I had to get a pac adapter.

You can tap right into the speaker wires at the back of the H.U.'s wire harness. I would highly suggest replacing the stock non-bose speakers if you care at all about clarity and loudness without distortion. Especially if your gonna sink a bunch of money into a double din DVD/Nav H.U. Do it once, do it right, and definately get an amp to power the speakers. As far as 6x9s, I wouldn't even bother. Just replace all your door speakers with nice 6.5"s and you won't be dissapointed. You can get cleaner, more accurate sound from upper-end 6.5"s IMO. I would look at Rainbow Audio, Diamond Audio, Focal, etc. On ebay they aren't unreasonble prices and you'll never regret getting great sounding speakers even if they cost you a little more than expected.
i have an 04 sedan, non bose. i installed polk db650 6.5in in both front and rear. Kept the factory unit. the sound is night and day compared to the cheap stock speaker. What did was cut out the old factory speaker to get the speaker "basket" and screw to polk speaker into the basket. Hence, kept the factory speaker wire plug. No wire cutting was done.
