Here's a beta writeup, installing the iPod in the trunk, until the 10-pin DIN extension cable is available. Made it as step by step as possible. It's really an easy install, plug sat cable into ipod adapter, plug ipod into ipod adapter. Done. If you have satellite, all you have to do is plug in one other cable.

When the DIN cable is available, you'll have to remove the rear seats and loosen the console enough to get the cable underneath it and into the center compartment. Drill a hole and that's it.

Right-click and choose Save As...

Nice writeup...
I have a 2005, Bose, no Sat. So, if I don't want Sat radio, I can just purchase the basic kit and I won't need any extension to get the plug up to the glove box like the first picture?

Correct. But the install is a little more difficult as you will be mounting the ipod box in the cabin, and have a bulkier cable running under the carpet.

And by glovebox, i'll assume you mean the center console compartment as running it to the passenger side glovebox would require more cable than comes in the kit.

Ref your instructions, "you'll have to remove the rear seats and loosen the console enough to get the cable underneath it and into the center compartment. Drill a hole and that's it." ... do you have pictoral instructions for removing the rear seats and best way to route the harness cable into center compartment? I assume you went under carpet with leader wire?

I don't have pics as i haven't run the wire yet. I'm going to run the DIN extension cable, if i can get one soon, under the carpet vice running the included harness cable. I just referenced the service manual and poked around a bit to see what would be involved for that final step.

Chose to wait for a DIN extension cable vs running the harness cable up there and mounting the adapter in the cabin because i may want sat in the future and prefer to leave the ipod box in the trunk. Also the DIN cable is the thickness of your average computer keyboard cable, whereas the harness cable is as thick as my thumb. Just seemed easier. And the ipod box is in an easy place to get at if i needed to.

If you do want to run the harness into the cabin, i did find the perfect place for the adapter to rest if you want some suggestions

Wouldn't think so.. the adapter takes the control signals from the harness and either passes through to the satellite or converts to the serial format the ipod needs.

However, if you could figure which pins let the adapter know an ipod is there (and a switch to turn it on off), you could just hook up the L/R audio pins of your own hacked DIN cable to get the sound but you'd have no way to stop it from playing or skip tracks, etc. from the wheel. You'd come out cheaper with the PAC unit.

Seems like there'd be a better way to do that, but if you do it, take pics!

Finished installing the kit. As already described, it installed in minutes and was very very easy. Took a while to figure out the controls from inside the car but after slowing down my key strokes it went smooth. The only con I can see so far is that if you press buttons to fast when navigating, either the ipod or the interface can't keep up and it dumps you back to the beginnig. This was very frustrating in the beginning when I was trying to learn the ins and outs of navigating through the menus and selecting songs.

Although an insignificant limitation, it does rule out trying to find a song title alphabetically. I haven't yet figured out if the song title or artist can be constantly displayed, as of right now it automatically reverts to XM CHNL 001 after you have made your selection. Again, in my opinion this limitation is insignificant and I am very pleased with the functions it does provide as a whole.

Thanks to the OP for the writeup and Part Numbers, I would have definately purchased the kit from you had I not needed the setup immediately for a road trip tomorrow. I ended up picking it up a my local Nissan dealer who happen to have one setup in stock. Unfortunately, I did end up paying a little more for my haste but such is life.

Again, cheers to Glycerine for the discovery and write-up! Finally, I am not limited to CD's and the horrible local radio stations!

Yeah, I meant the center console. Sounds like I'd be better off waiting for the smaller cable... thanks Glycerine

Just to clarify, all i did was figure out where to mount it and take pics. Joe is the OP and the guy who figured out you could use it in the first place. I bought the kit from him like the rest of you

Whoops. Noticed some of my circles drifted to the right of the page in the write-up. Fixed.

Great job on the write up.. I never do any of this type of work myself. But even with this write up I could do this myself. When and where can we get this longer cable?
