Invisicord Install Tutorial
This is a tutorial for installation of the "Invisicord" that has been popularized largely in part by users of this forum. To the uninformed, the Invisicord is a home-made cord available for purchase at http://www.invisicord.com that allows for users with powered mirrors to hardwire their radar detectors with almost "plug-n-play" ease. The entire process is very simple, but the directions that come with the cord are not very concise. Below is a quick tutorial on installing the device.
*Note: Invisicord currently supports the following detectors:
Escort 8500, X50, 7500, 6800
Valentine V1
Beltronics 965, 995, RX55, RX65
Invisicord wiring diagram (comes with invisicord)
Invisicord wires:
Locate harness on back of mirror:
Push in tab of harness and slide it out:
Identify proper wires and their corresponding slots (pink+black = 12V, black = ground, red+black = unused for this installation); place Invisicord yellow wire in the SAME SLOT as the pink+black G35 Factory wire; place Invisicord black wire in the SAME SLOT as the black G35 Factory wire
Plug harness back into rear of mirror, attach the other end of the invisicord into your radar detector, and you're done
The following may not apply to you:
When I was fiddling with the G35 wiring harness, a black plastic piece securing the wires from the mirror to the internals of the vehicle came loose and fell. I just reattached this.
For those interested, the mounting used to secure my Passport Escort X50 to my mirror is "Mike's Mount." Email MIKE3348@adelphia.net and mention you are from G35driver.com for a possible discount.

Just wanted to double check (I'm not near my G35 at this time, and haven't yet ordered the Invisicord) - if you leave the radar detector turned on, and then shut off the engine, is power to the detector turned off? How about if the radar detector is on, and the engine is off, but the ignition is in the ACC mode?
Thanks.
Thanks.

That is correct. If you follow the above steps, the detector will power on and off when the ignition is started or when the car is in ACC mode. I have heard some people speaking of the detector staying on all the time, so I am assuming they wired the inviscord into an incorrect slot(s).
Mike does have a website for his mount. I do not have it on me but you can snag it with a search.

Great writeup! In an effort to add to this great thread, I'm going to share my pics of my V1 setup with Invisicord.
With this setup (slightly to the left of my rearview, and below the tint line) I have no interference with either the front or rear sensors on the V1 - line of sight is good, and I never have to take my eyes off the road to look over to see the V1 display. I simply reach up to mute it when I'm driving by shopping areas, and I find this location to be ideal.
