Re: Radar detector?

"The Escort Passport 8500 has immunity to VG-2 which is the most popular radar dector detection scheme used by the cops."

The Valentine is also invisible to the VG-2. The difficulty is with the new Stealth MicroSystems Spectre RDD. I'm told that V-1 will be updated to be invisible to the Spectre soon (don't ask me when).

Re: Radar detector?

radar detectors are allowed in georgia and jersey. They are illegal in D.C. and virginia.

this site has some nice info regarding this junk.

as for the vg-2... yeah most radar detectors automatically turn off when they sense a vg-2 gun. I don't think any turn off automatically with the new spectre technology though.

My suggestion, if you're passing through DC or virginia, just take the detector off.

If you live in either place.... then move

Re: Radar detector?

Anyone have ideas for K40 install? Sunglass holder up top? Knee cap at the vdc button?

Re: Radar detector?

I loved my V1, the arrows were so helpful when I need to find a grocery store or a 7 Eleven. Its also kind enough to tell HOW MANY grocery stores are in the area! <sarcasim>
Buy the 8500, its cheaper and its better. 10 PUBLICATIONS RANK IT OVER the V1. I have owned both, and years ago the V1 WAS the best, now the 8500 is.
I had a couple of V-1's and they were great a few years a ago but they have NOT seen an update in two years... but hey they did come out with a really nice case!
Id buy the 8500, or wait to see if Valentine releases a new unit (if they do you can bet the farm it will be better than the 8500). They HAVE to some time, their market share is a measly 5%.
The only thing VALENTINE seems to be good at is knocking new radar guns such as the POP mode, and whining about reviewers being biased. Instead of putting the POP mode down and saying it doesnt work how about just upgrading the product so it can defend you against it? MR Valentine always makes note of how the guy from radartest.com is biased towards Escort products, of course he FAILS to mention that THE REVIEWER RATED THE V-1 #1 OVER previous Escort products in PAST reviews?
Whats funny to me is that IF YOUR PRODUCT is so much better why not prove it, have an independent lab show you have the best detector.
I rememeber years back when KA came around and everyone said that law enforcement would never switch.... funny thats what MOST highway patrols use now.
Take the time to read ALL THESE REVIEWS
http://www.escortradar.com/reviews.htm
I REALLY dont think EVERY one of these magazines was BIASED in there reviews.

NOW HERE comes the flames for the V1! The V1 RULES !
Edited by lorinserbenz on 05/08/04 07:00 PM.

Re: Radar detector?

Just drive the speed limit and "BAM" you get no tickets. LOL. I have the Escort 8500 and have had good luck with it. The V-1 is also a nice one.

Re: Radar detector?

I own the Escort 8500 and I love it. They came out with an upgraded 8500, you might want to check that one out also.

Re: Radar detector?

Hi all!

I've got a dectector, but one that's unmentioned in this post that I've found to operate superbly. It's the Bel 995, the upgraded version of the Bel 985. It has all the same bells and whistles as the new Escort Passport 8500 X50, the newest version of the 8500, and I paid about $40.00 less than the X50. In tests, the 995 and the X50 were head to head except the X50 had about another 14,000 feet of Ka detections in the over the hill test. Otherwise the units were neck and neck. the Valentine, sad to say, came in 3rd. I did a lot of research on dectectors before I purchased and the Bel 995 was found to be the best overall value because it's less than the X50 and outperforms the V1. It's firmware upgradable, has the auto mute feature some of you are missing and it rates side by side to the X50. The 995 actually had les X band falsies than the X50 so I chose the Bel because I live in a major metro area, NW Chi town.

Hope this helps anyone looking to buy a dectector!
