Best JL 250/1 amp install location?

Ok guys. I just got my G35 coupe 6MT with bose system finally like 3 weeks ago and have been looking at this forum almost daily. Now I am finally posting something because I need some input. I am a bit of an audiophile and love some bass, and one thing this car lacks is some of that. So, I got a JL 250/1, 4080 box for passenger side, and 10W3V2 sub. Now I am getting ready to install it. I do all my installs myself and am not a noob when it comes to it. What I want to know however, is where I can put the amp to make it look clean/stealth. I have seen other threads about this and I saw that some people said they put it in the area where the bose amp is and mounted it on top of that amp. What I would love to see is pics of this if anyone has them, and also some feedback from those who have done it. Do you have overheating, etc...Also, how did you mount it safely above the other amp. Build your own rack or brackets? Please help because I want to do this soon. Thanks guys.

I love this frickin' car!!!

I would consider taking it back and going with a 500/1. To get good bass out of the W3 you are going to have to crank that 250 up all the way.

Great choice 250/1 and 10w3. You will love the system. A 250/1 is perfect. I would worry about zaping the sub I I used a 500/1. 500/1 puts you in danger zone.

Thanks, that's what I kinda thought too from looking at the JL website. I would have gone with the 500/1 if I got the 10W6, but not for the 10W3. I think that will be just right, IMO.

I mounted my JL amp on top of the Bose amp bracket, which is under the black support to the left of the spare tire. You'll have to do a little trimming of the plastic pice.

I pulled out my JL and replaced it with more powerful Alpine amps in a custom arrangement, so I'm looking for the whole black piece. We can work out a trade if you don't want to cut yours.

I've been in the black with dozens of JL's over the years with great luck. If you take care and do it right you get the best quality and output when you give it more clean power instead of maxing what a smaller amp can do.

I mounted my 250/1 upside down inside the spare tire.

True, however too much is always (usually) better than not enough -- you will run into excursion problems with a sealed w3 before you run into thermal problems if you go with the 500/1.

The only reason I would avoid the 250/1 is the price/performance ratio versus the 500/1, since zBay usually has them for around $100 difference (for twice the power!)

So I think you should be good to go, just remember that you have a single sealed 10 when you are tuning, don't be the newb that turns it up until you get mad bass at volume 2.

Any pics? What did you mount it too/with? I have heard of other people doing this too, but have never seen it.

correct me if Im wrong but that would let your amp heat up to much. I mounted a RF amp I had upside down under the rear deck on my 330i
and it would get hot and clip every 30 min or so and one of my friends who works at a stereo shop told me it was because of that

depends on the specific amp and flow, try it and if it overheats then find a different orientation, or install fans

+1
generally speaking though you could do the hand test instead of actually letting it overheat

also generally speaking upside down is pry the worst way to mount your amp in terms of heat-- of course it travels up, and those heat fins are engineered that way for a reason.

adding fans in the spare tire will not do anything unless you're pulling air from somewhere else... so...

don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of stealth installs, but they have to be practical
