Installing OEM Nav, really that bad??
I'm interested in installing the OEM Nav as I think it looks best compared to a double din aftermarket.
Read a few posts, OEM Nav installation really that bad? What are the specific problems that come up?
I'm in Canada so I'm wondering are those 6.x version discs cover Canada as well?
Also does the OEM nav unit have an external GPS attena?
I'm thinking of getting one from a scrapyard and having a professional place install it

I remember reading a DIY here before. Search the tech or DIY forums. Another thing is that oem navi's aren't easily obtainable as I'm sure you'll find out later. Searching on ebay, they have two - Screen only or entire console from an 04'.
i asked about it myself and came to the conclusion that the double din setup was the way to go. about the same cost, less work, deffinetly sharper image and you can do whatever you want from there.
the double din kit is hard to come by though unless you get the ugly cheap version.

I have OEM nav in mine, one of the reasons I bought that certain car... Sometimes I wish I would have just gotten aftermarket nav though...
I'd say just do the double din dealio. You can get a better screen + gui by going aftermarket, heh. Indeed.

Other than navigation on my 05, you get a meter that tells you your MPG and how many miles you have until empty and a trip meter for avg speed, duration, and i forget what else.
It's not really worth it to do an aftermarket install of the OEM nav system. The only cool feature about it is that if you get the 05 and up version, the screen is motorized.
If i could do it again, i'd have gone without the navi and just bought a TomTom One. At least then i could use it in my other car.

I would go aftermarket with a double din. This will save you alot of time, money and headaches. Its too bad Infiniti didnt make a navi that could be put in without all this hassle.
About the oem telling you about gas mileage distance etc. Everytime i fill up i keep a log with mileage and gallons. I don't know why, but i just can't stop writing it down after 7 mnths. Oh i installed aftermarket nav in my car and i like some of the added goodies it has. Mainly i added a dvd player to it and if i cared to i could and back up camera, but those two are just toys....
And yes i was BS'ing about adding stock. When i bought my car i knew that if i didnt get stock nav i was going aftermarket, and aftermarket is always better. Better being subjective
