How to tell if you need A/C Fix???
How to tell if you need A/C Fix???
I was wondering how can you tell if you should have the A/C fix? What are you guys listening for when you turn your A/C on? Will it be obvious to notice right away?

When the a/c compressor is running at higher rpms, it sounds like you have an 8-71 blower under the hood. From inside, you can't hear the engine for the a/c compressor. When you hit the a/c button (off) the sound goes away.

Very good, Poindexter54, nice to hear a difinitive description. The noise sounds quite loud, I take it? Does it come on abruptly and stay or does it gradually worsen? As you can tell I don't have this prob. nor do I want it but it's nice to know what to listen for. Thanx for the help.

I didn't think I had the A/C problem either, then I started listening during acceleration with the A/C on (in hot/humid weather), and I thought I heard a little growling noise. It doesn't happen all the time, but if you think you hear something, try this.
1. Pull over and put the car in Park.
2. Shut off the A/C.
3. Rev the engine up to 3,000 rpm and listen.
4. Turn on the A/C.
5. Rev the engine up to 3,000 rpm again. Does it sound like a weed whacker under the hood? If so, you've got the problem.
The good news is that Infiniti has a fix. Call your dealer, and reference ITB-02057. I dropped off my car last night, and will pick it up today with a 'quiet' compressor installed. The procedure takes about 2 hours (they say.)
Hope this helps.

Thinking the same thing. But I believe that there is a slight compressor noise when the A/C is on, makes it sound and feel like the tranny torque convertor is the culprit. If that is the case (tranny), then Infiniti did not install a strong enough one. Hope it is not like my the '88 Pathfinder I had, but then again the tranny held up for 8 years until I had to spend $1,500 to repair it.
