Re: FINALLY! My DoubleDIN Conversion DIY Guide

Great work! The only suggestion I could make to improve it is to list all the tools you need before getting started.

Re: FINALLY! My DoubleDIN Conversion DIY Guide

Thanks for the feedback. Listing all the tools needed was an afterthought but I was trying to get the guide out quickly. I will revamp it to include that and notify admin over @ g-owners.com to modify it. I'll try and work on it tomorrow.

THanks again.

Re: FINALLY! My DoubleDIN Conversion DIY Guide

It was pretty frustrating at first! I almost threw in the towel a couple times b/c I ran into problems here and there. I took my dash apart and put it back together approx. 5 times before I was completely done with the complete swap.

BUT, since I did that so many times, I can disassemble my dash is 20 minutes or less now. Kinda like a NASCAR pit crew....lol

Re: FINALLY! My DoubleDIN Conversion DIY Guide

nice work
im goin to go the sdouble din route as well, but i have a titanium and willow interior so i got to find the parts that have the willow color on the sides and buttons instead of the graphite. but i guess i could just get it painted and change all the buttons out. shouldnt be too bad
great work on your setup

Re: FINALLY! My DoubleDIN Conversion DIY Guide

Many people are asking a lot of questions and for a lot of advice on the dash/DouleDIN/AC controller conversion lately.

So, I thought, I'd bring this thread back up to the top for easy reference.

Admin, can we permanently leave it at the top of the forum so people can easily link to it?

Re: FINALLY! My DoubleDIN Conversion DIY Guide

Just to let everyone know that a revision is in the works by admin over at g-owners.com.

It wil include the tools needed, part and part numbers needed and the process by which to obtain these parts from J's Garage in Japan. Also included will be some minor revisions about the process, nothing majorly changed though.

Re: FINALLY! My DoubleDIN Conversion DIY Guide

Did you include an explanation of why the X colored double din has the AL700 part # rather than what they ordered?

Re: FINALLY! My DoubleDIN Conversion DIY Guide

I am a bit lost on what the benefit or need is for the 2xdin conversion. Can someone give details or point in right direction?

Re: FINALLY! My DoubleDIN Conversion DIY Guide

If you want to change your stock Clarion HU to a better aftermarket deck, you'll need to perform the doubleDIN conversion. The reason is b/c the stock dash space will not fit a DIN or doubleDIN deck. The other main reason is the stock Ac controller and radio/CD changer IC board is integrated which means that all the controls are located on ONE IC board. If you don't have a Japan v35 AC controller, your AC will not work and will blow warm air.

Bascially, if you want to change your stock HU, you'll need to spend ~$380-400 to change your dash console to fit an aftermarket deck and retain AC controls.

Re: FINALLY! My DoubleDIN Conversion DIY Guide

Also note:

Even WITHOUT the premium package, you will still need the AC Controller. If you have the premium package, you will need the AC Controller+modify it a little bit.
$400 is a big price to pay, but it is worth it IMO.
