Where do you guys mount GPS sensors and microphones?

Hi Guys,

I've ordered a bunch of goodies to install next weekend; Kenwood DNX5120, PAC-SWI, etc. I'll do the install myself and post a guide when I'm done.

I've got a question for those of you who have done aftermarket GPS installs. Where did you put the little GPS receiver? The cable seems pretty long, so I guess I could put it on the shelf behind the back seats. It doesn't seem like there's any part of the dashboard flat enough to accommodate it. Is there any space under the dash board plastic where this would fit? I imagine a little bit of plastic won't attenuate the signal too much.

Also, where would you put the mic for the bluetooth interface? I'm thinking somewhere near the driver's sun visor. Where is it on the OEM installation?

Thanks.

my gps antenna is mounted on my dash, near the front left corner, and mic is mounted in the pillar on the driver's side:

I'm sure there's a cleaner way to mount the mic, but this has worked good so far

Not sure what yr your car is but I have an 03 coupe. The GPS antenna was mounted in a small cubby behind the temp display guages above the clock. I didn't know there was a space there until my installer removed the display. My reception is excellent so I hope this helps.

As for my mic, it is just right of the driver's sun visor. The wiring runs under the headliner and down the pillar like the picture above. I seem to get more road noise from my drivers door so I went with the middle of the car. It's worked out well and the person on the other end hasn't complained of background noise.

The space behind the clock is where the antenna for the OEM navi is mounted.

I mounted mine under the reat window on a metal disc with my sat radio antenna.

My gps antenna is mounted inside the dash near the clock, I have only seen less than full bars one time on my gps, and that was one bar less than full. Great reception.

Thanks all. If the antenna on the Kenwood unit fits, I'll definitely put it behind the clock.
