hey guys i got my g torn apart cuz i am dynomatting it and decided mine as well replace the system.

anyways i have a type r sub and alpine mono 300 watt amp i was gonna put in, and i plan on doing a alpine w200 in dash. and was thinking of doing type s 6x9in in rear deck, and then the type s for the rear seat and fronts (not sure on size. and then wasnt sure on an amp if i needed one?

basically how do you think that would all sound. would it def be a step up from the bose system?

what would you guys go with? keeping price of speakers and amps alone (not including HU and subs) down to around under the 400ish dollar range. if it is a little more that is fine.

I just want something better then the blose sound! lol

 

Well, I did what it seems most others do on this forum and just put a new set of components up front and new amp and it sounds killer!

So, I would suggest getting a high end set of components for the front, a good 4 channel amp, and then running 2 channels to the front speakers and then bridge the other two to the sub. Trust me, a good set of components up front is more than enough!

then what do i do with the alpine mono amp I have already? im looking to put possibly 1 more 12" type r in and have two, just for show mostly

 

I would either:

- keep the amp, run it to the 12 and get a 2 ch amp and run it to the front stage speakers

or

- buy a just buy a 4ch and use it for everything...front stage and 12.

I would suggest just going ahead and buying a 4ch and using it to power the front speakers and 1-12 sub. I think 2-12's is a waste if its just for show and would advise against it!

BTW....Image Dynamics makes the best sounding speakers I've heard for the money. I went with DLS, but I would probably go with the image XS65 if I did it over again!

 

The bose 6x9s reproduce low frequencies only. Since you are adding a sub, you don't need to replace the 6x9's. Just disconnect them. If you want some rear fill, just replace the rear side speakers with 6.5 inch coaxial speakers. Plus, the 6x9s are not easy to get to to replace them.

with a new HU and amp to bypass the Bose amp, you can use 4 ohm speakers.

 

thats what i plan on doing then, ive heard alot of people doing that. gonna take out the 6x9s for more air flow, then lookin at focal 6.5 coaxials for rear sides, and focal components for the front. and a JBL 4 channel amp. cost was 199.99 for components fronts, 179.98 for rear sides, and amp was 249.99. is that a good deal and good setup?

 

Some people don't even use rear fill speakers and the stereo still sounds good.

 

+1. I would put the money you were thinking about spending on the rear speakers into either a better set of front speakers or a better amp! Look into ARC audio amps....that's what I put in and I'm extremely pleased with the results. It runs about 350. I just think putting coaxials in the rears is a waste!

 

Try fading the sound all the way to the front and see how it sounds. I bet you won't miss the rear fill.

 

If you're like me, loving rear fill, what you can do is do a good front stage and the 6.5 rear fill for a system.

Some Coaxials make up as good rear fill, so I wouldn't say it's a waste. It's all depends on how you stage your setup.

I'd spend my money on improving the front stage first, and if left over, I'll do the rear fills. You can always add later on.

Having Great SQ system but bad staging is something you DON'T want to do. I've seen many midrange system that staged right and sound superb.

I was going to go with a mid-end setup (in term of SQL competition, but for average people, would be on par with higher end stuffs) as the followings, but decided to sell these and go much bigger to enter the competitions.

Front Stage:
Running off the MBQ RAA4200 4-CH Amp:

1. Two Channels of the MBQ Amp to power the eD eu-700 for the midbass in the door - For the Bass
2. The other 2 channels are to Power eD[i] 6500 Component sets in the Custom kicks. Adding a set of Seas Neo Alu or Scanspeaks HD2900 Series Tweets as image running across the windshield on the availability port of the eD[i] Crossover to make it a 3-way system. (The Crossovers that came with the eDi system allow you to add a set of image tweeters.)

Rear Stage:
Get another 4CH amp (Elemental Designs NINe.4) to run the OZ Audio 6.5 and 6x9 Coaxials as rearfills. Or I can run these from the Head unit directly

Sub Stage:
eD (Elemental Designs) NINe.1 Mono Amp to Power the MBQ 15" Sub (very nice SQ and shallow sub, easy for installation as well though it's a 15")

This staging as well as component setup will be on par compete with a lot of other setups that cost twice as much (Alpine Type-X lines). It will deliver the Sound Quality as well as awesome power if needed.

When i got my trunk dynamated, decided to go with the alpine type x's w/ the w200, went very nice. they hit clean and hard, very accurate. My exact set up was:
Alpine double din w2oo
2 12"alpine type-x's, custom box w/plexi /neon
1 rockford fosgate t10001 bd amp, puts out about 1600 rms,
Alpine BlackBird
Alpine Center channel speaker
Alpine Theather Amp 5.1 surround sound w/ Coaxial cable
alpine type r speaker all around.

Post up some pics showing the subs and the center channel especially.

 

You don't need the 6x9's if you are having a sub in the trunk. Leave those areas empty to port the sub into the cabin.

I agree with making sure you have your front stage properly set up. I am running a 5 channel amp and I have two channels bridged to each of my front 3 way separates and the last channel runs my sub. I dropped in some inexpensive rear coaxials for rear fill that is run off the headunit but I have the system faded towards the front so as to not clip the rear fills when I turn the system up.
