Windshield HUD Speed Display
After searching the digikey catalog for awhile, the 16 pin socket on the board is a 1.27mm spacing type. I can not find a 16 pin cable at the spacing we need, but I can find a 20 pin (one row on each side extra, or I'll cut 2 off). I found one cable that is male on one side and female on the other end (transfer cable), but it is only 12 inches long. I think that will be long enough for where I plan to put the unit of behind the clock. The digikey part number that I am ordering is SAM8583-ND and costs $11.45 for one. If 1 foot is too short, you can order 2 cables and daisy chain the cables.
Until next update on this project...

The Defi units looks nice, but might have too much information on display. I can see why allendoc wants to cover the compass of the G-top unit with electrical tape, it is a little distracting, sometimes found myself trying to read what direction I'm going and not focusing on the road. I think for devices of this type speed is all that's needed.
I always liked those displays and wondered why I had not seen them in any cars except my uncles Grand Prix GTP, I believe.
Intrested in how it turns out and a DIY would be greatly appreciated...
So then maybe I would take this project on....lol.

There is another light, Tony, what is that for? Is that the light that flashes once you set a speed? That is all I need, hit triple digits and a light starts flashing at me. Also, by covering up most of the items, the actual area needed for the tint on the windshield (to display the speed) will be about half the size. +1 for that.
This box opens rather easy, only two small phillip screws.

The other light should be the speeding warning light that you can set yourself. Never had it going off because I set the limit to a high number, 160mph. Don't think I'll go that fast in the G.
+1 for the DIY.

I think I'll cover that light also then leaving just the speed. As for the 160mph, do a youtube search. I will be doing a DIY. Another fun part is going to be soldering wires into the cigarette lighter. It is needed to convert the 12v to 5v. I plan to use Double sided tape on the back of the opening created by splitting the unit into two pieces. This will secure the unit and protect it's contents. This will only turn into about a $100 total project, not bad for stealth install HUD with remote power switch.

Drove with the unit at night for the first time yesterday and it worked very well, all of my passengers were very impressed. The speed reading is not visible from the outside, but the bright blinking lights on the front are. The blinking lights indicates that a GPS connection has been established, and one of the lights happens to be blue. In Hawaii there are laws against having blue lights on vehicles, so to avoid trouble, I covered it with black electrical tape (after trying permanent markers which didn't work). Actually drove through a sobriety check point last night, but the cop didn't notice it.
My dad will be going back to Taiwan in May and will be in the town where G-Top is located (also my dad's hometown). He said he'll call up the company and give them a head up about interests from the G35 community. If we're lucky there might be something that fits better on G35 dashes when I go back to Taiwan for vacation in December.
In the mean time, looking forward to allendoc's DIY on the stealth install.

Well..... The cable I ordered arrived today, and it fit the connector perfectly. So it is possible to separate the units. But I can not get the unit to power on with the 1 ft connector, and it most be a timing check it does on power on. I have 6 cables (I thought I order 2, but I have 6). Tony, I'll gladly send you a couple cables to give your dad, PM me an address. G.Top could make this work for us. I did black out all the lights Tony just mentioned, the blue light is also illegal in Florida. I also got rid of the Compass, Flashing Speed light, and the M for MPH. My tint is only a 2" square, very small.... But presently, the stealth install is not possible with this unit.
So Tony, you can deliver to G.Top our wishes. A HUD with a plug in GPS antenna for remote install, and remoter LEDs. I would also like to have lights that can have inputs, for instance I like having the blinkers on the Gran Prix I drove.
I tried though, even took pictures on my blog. The cable I ordered for DIGIKEY kit the plug,

I'll contact my cousin in Taiwan as well, his company manufactures robotic toys and have their own team of engineers. They should have all the parts necessary for the modification.
Thanks for trying allendoc, I'll try to relay your message to the G-Top people.
