SoundKase for double-din

I just received my double-din and am planning to install the Pioneer avic-n1. For the empty din, instead of a blank or empty pocket, I was thinking about trying this ... http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/SCOSKNT4 Anyone have any experience with this? Will it fit?

Hey Crashtest:

I'm getting the AVIC-N1 installed too but not going to use that product you linked... decided to go with the Pioneer CDS-P4000 which will be able to play CD's and can leave my NAV disc or DVD in the AVIC. It has an IP Bus and runs off the AVIC's controls so it makes things handy. Someone else has a link on here that did something similar.... they have pics of their install too...check it out

yah ... will prolly do what your're suggesting ... in time. I'm on a budget tho (or at least, I'm supposed to be) and want a temporary fix. Keep me posted on what you think of the avic-n1 plus CDS-P4000 setup when you get it up and running. Might have to break some rules and splurge a lil early.

Re: SoundKase for double-din

why not just go with the Eclipse AVN? It has 2 slots for the nav and for CD;s...

Yah ... did a search on the AVN a while back, and must've missed the part where it does NAV too. Hmmm ... oh well, besides, it's on the turtle express back order and it doesn't have the how fast you can take a turn before slamming into the opposite wall guages. oh, yeah, I already bought the avic and it's already on it's way... I knew there was a reason why I didn't get the AVN. You see how I try to justify my shortsightedness with all these avic qualifications.

Re: SoundKase for double-din

man thats perfect!!!!!!!!!!!
what a great way to store you dvd-disc or mp3 discs while not in use... dude... crashtestdummy.... please let us know if you decide to get this unit. perhaps get it painted to match the g's interior.... good luck!!!!! i am going with the same setup hopefully in 2 weeks once i get my double-din dash in...

OH and 1 more thing crashtestdummy... do you plan on installing the AVIC-N1 on the top din or bottom din?

The reason i ask is because if it is in the top din (like how i've seen ALL people install their motorized LCD's) it will block the A/C-Heat controls when the screen is out. So mounting it 2 inches lower will save you some motor usage thats for sure. Hopefully it wont be too low though, i mean its only 2" lower...

Re: SoundKase for double-din

Just received the soundkase cd holder today, and should have the avic-n1 on Monday, so will check later and get back to you.

From my understanding, the reason that most people are installing the avic-n1 in the top din is because there is not enought clearance for the LCD to open when the car is in park. If anyone with an avic-n1 would like to chime in, please let us know.

Re: SoundKase for double-din

I mounted mine on the top din for two reasons:
1. easier to see when higher up
2. installing my deh9400 on the bottom din, and if I switch the two, the avic-n1 would block my deh9400 (for playing cd's to avoid swapping, although in reality I don't really use the nav that much for actually finding places, so it turns out not to be that big of an issue)

As for blocking the AC controls, the avic has a two buttons on top right of the monitor. One closes the monitor completely. The other just lowers it or raises it, so you have complete access to the AC controls. Works out quite nicely in my opinion. Quite happy with the avic-n1.

Re: SoundKase for double-din

cool guys, i guess i will mount mine in the top as well. Thanks for all of the info. and I just ordered that soundkase 4cd holder, i am going to try to paint the face of it silver though

FYI... even if you mount in the lower...it will still clear the shifter... there is PLENTY of space (at least on the 6mt)

Re: SoundKase for double-din

just checked to see the fit on the SoundKase 4 disc holder ... SKNT4 ... I think was the item number... it DOES NOT fit. It comes with a 3 different face covers and 2 types of mounting brackets ... it does not fit. I'm gonna try to to return mine, but I guess you could always try to create a custom mounting bracket for it ... I'm gonna go to my local car audio shop to see if I can get a single din pocket.

Re: SoundKase for double-din

Ooops. Take that back. I decided to fiddle with the soundkase a little more today during my install and managed to get one of the frames to work. You have to use the widest frame cover that has it's opening offset (not exactly in the middle). there will still be a thin gap between the top din and the bottom one (about .5 cm). It's not too bad tho.
