So does buying the jdm kit bypass the finisher board and thus once the new ac controller and kit are installed then you won't need to replace the finisher board if it was fried?
Thanks!

Yes. The JDM kit includes the trim and the climate controls.

No one could seem to find they guy who hacked up his stock faceplate circuit board. I think I found the latest version, this was done somewhat recently. I didn't do it I just found it.

Wow, great find!

They mention hours of arduous work. At standard shop rates of about $75-100/hr, it's definitely cheaper to buy the JDM climate controls and just cut a DD-sized hole in the OEM radio finisher.

Even though it doesn't look like the prettiest thing it could make it possible for someone to integrate a touchscreen climate control

It's already possible, to a significantly talented electrical engineer and programmer, since the harness is already there to tap into.
So, there's no benefit to cutting the thing in half if that's your goal, since you'd be plugging into the exact same harness either way.

Does anyone know if they make black buttons for the ac control that are sold separately as my car came with the conversion but it has ugly grey buttons. I would like to swap the buttons the same time as I change the leds or would I have to buy a new ac control with black buttons then I would be wasting time changing the leds on my current control only to do it again... or are the boards interchangeable between controllers? Can anybody shed some light in this issue please

It's called the JDM kit, do you have a double Din Stereo? Changing LEDs are very technical.

Ugly gray buttons... are they rubbery? If so, you've got the metra kit, not the JDM kit. If you want black buttons paint the rubber or swap out the metra kit for the JDM one.

Ahh I guess I have the metra kit and from my understanding they dont make black buttons. Any one know if the boards are the same as the jdm then I can change the leds already. I swapped the switches and the cluster leds already its pretty simple. Just wanted to get black buttons first but ahh I guess ill save money for a jdm kit and hunt down a black dcc button.

Boards aren't the same at all, just functional equivalents.
