Okay,

I've read the maual, and re-read it, and I can only deduce the explanation about PTY is a literal translation of Japanese, cause man, it makes no sense to me at all. I get the concept, just can't figure out how to use it. Can anyone enlighten me please?

Also, with RDS I get the station name but never get song or artist. Do other's get it? I'm in Toronto! G35x Premium MY04.

Judging by the responses (lack of) I see I'm not the only one who has no idea how to make use of this (PTY) button. Does nobody have any idea?

I don't really know what it is, but from the service manual, I can surmise its something like dolby digital sound.

PTY = Program Type.

The idea is that you can have the radio find radio stations of the type that you want to listen to. So, it can find "Top 40", "Traffic", or some other options. It looks like if you tap the PTY button until the correct station type is displayed, and then you push "seek" up or down within 10 seconds, it will try to find a radio station of that type.

I tried this several years ago, and it didn't work well because there weren't that many RDS radio stations around.

As far as RDS only showing only the station name, I think that depends on the radio station. Mine always shows Station Name, then Title, then artist. Or something like that.

Now I just listed to satelite...

Hey Buzz,

I live in Toronto area also. I've never seen any other displays except for the radio call letters.
I'll give the button a try Monday and get back to you as to what I found. I haven't touched the PYT button for about 6 months.

Re: the RDS.
Only one of the stations I listen to shows the Title and Artist. All other stations just show the station name.
