Kenwood DNX8120
I have a 2006 G35X Sedan and I just bought the Kenwood DNX8120 with the Grubbs/JDM Kit and A/C controls, the Pac SWI steering wheel controls, the TV tuner, the IPOD cable, the XM traffic/radio receiver and the backup camera. Is there anything else I should buy for this system before I have it installed next week?

Hi,
I am also after the 8120 and the very same setup as OP has. I have read through the whole lot of stickies, and the more I read the more I am getting confused.
Could someone lay out what is needed for a DD kit conversion? I have a 2005 Coupe.
I so far ordered only the AC controls and the DD frame (bracket). I think I will need the Antenna Adapter and Wiring harness and Steering wheel controls.
It would be nice to have a link to all products, then we can all go out and buy them.
Thanks a lot,
Ben
EDIT: As per Crutchfield, this is the Steering control that fits:
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...&tp=3405&avf=N
However, the DNX 8120 is not selectable as HU, so I went with the 7120. Hope the two are most identical.

I had the DNX8120 installed into my G35 Coupe last month, and I also used the PAC SWI-JACK, the JDM DD Kit, the Kenwood iPod adapter, and Sirius reciever.
I ordered all of my additional installation parts from Crutchfield, and here's a listing of what I needed (see the attached image as well):
- Nissan/Infiniti Receiver Wire Harness ($20) http://www.crutchfield.com/S-MDkxL1t...px?i=120707551
- Nissan Antenna Adapter ($13) http://www.crutchfield.com/S-No3VyG1...px?i=12040NI10
- Kenwood KCA-iP300V iPod adapter ($30) http://www.crutchfield.com/S-MDkxL1t...px?i=113IP300V
- PAC SWI-JACK Steering wheel adapter ($75) http://www.crutchfield.com/S-MDkxL1t...px?i=27SWIJACK
I also ordered a second Infiniti wire harness (which Crutchfield's system said I would need http://www.crutchfield.com/S-MDkxL1t...px?i=120707550), but I did not end up needing it, but I had read some others that used the harness above which had RCA connectors already spliced into it. The one I didn't need was only $12, and I decided to order it and be safe versus finding out during the install that Crutchfields system was right. I could have used either harness, but the one with the RCA's was easier.
One thing to make note of (since the installation instructions you'll probably get won't tell you), is that the PAC wire (yellow & blue wire - see the red arrow in the attached image) for the steering wheel control must be SPLICED with the DNX8120 control wire (which is also yellow & blue). The one on the DNX8120 steering remote input has has a plug on it and the install manual states you need an 'exclusive adapter' to use it, but that is not the case for this unit. You'll have to cut that connector off, simply splice the wires. And as you've probably read, there's a (frustrating) delay in response time with the steering wheel controls once the PAC module is in place. It makes changing the volume with any accuracy quite a challenge. But, I'm still glad I got it. I put the iPod and USB drive connector in the console, and I mounted the microphone in the upper driver's side door pillar. Both the Sirius and GPS receiver antennas are mounted on opposite sides of the dash very close to the front windshield (which look pretty good there).
I love the unit. It far surpasses anything I've used before now.
I hope this info helps!

G35Sedan03,
Don't go by what I say because I really don't know much about HD radio I would consider adding it if you guys tell me its worthwhile. I live in New York and everyone I've spoken with around here has told me that the technology has not advanced enough to the point where there are enough stations that you can pick up to make HD Radio worthwhile. I had XM Radio on my last car and I know its pretty good so I opted for that instead because I wanted to transfer over my XM membership locked in at the older rate from my last car and I wanted the XM traffic for my NAV system.

Did you do the install yourself or had someone do it for you? How long they had your car?
I am worried about getting someone to do this, as professionalism is hard to find here, and I dont want to end up with a scratched up interior etc. So even if I end up having someone do it in a shop, I will need to attent throughout the whole process, even if I annoy them, just to make sure they do a proper job.
Thanks,
Ben

Can I ask you about the sound quality of the built in bluetooth? I read a review that someone said it sounded a bit choppy, but then read another saying it was perfect. How is the sound quality on yours?
Also, kenwood's website doesn't give much info on the unit. I wanted to know, is there a hard drive or is it built in flash? Can you store music on the hard drive? Are the USB ports behind the face? If there is a hard drive, can you just connect the USB ports to a computer, or plug in a thumb drive and store music and video onto the DNX hard drive?
Sorry so many questions, but I really like this head unit and Kenwood's website isnt much help.
