Kenwood DNX8120
#61
Another quick question to people who have the DNX8120 installed.
I am doing the install myself this weekend, and I am worried about the "hissing sound" people experience with other HUs when using it with the stock BOSE amp.
Did any of you notice that or the slight volume loss? If so, should I go with the Line Output Converter? I can get it around 50-70USD at a local shop here, and if that saves me a unit re-pull, I wouldnt mind spending it.
Thanks,
Ben

the hiss is an issue if you have aftermarket amps. HOWEVER, if you have a hiss when you only swap the deck there's 2 ways that can happen:
1. you're getting inductive noise from somewhere
Solution: disconnect existing and reground the deck directly to the chassis
2. there's a problem with the deck
Solution: use the warranty

If you look at this post:

I have now installed an interface adapter and I can tell you that it sounds better. I had a gentle hiss before which is now gone.
This helps you match the gain levels to the bose amp and helps reduce any hissing sound you may have. (not engine whine)

He clearly says he had the hissing noise, although its on a Pioneer unit. I have seen this issue several times on the forum. You are saying that the Kenwood for sure doesn't have this issue with the stock BOSE amp?

Metra Harness
Troy,
Saw you mentioned the 7551 and the 7550. I purchased and wired up the 7551 and connected the pre-out to the rca connectors on the 7551 harness. SHould I get the 7550 and rewire it with that? I crimped so it wouldn't be hard to reconnect with another harness. You mentioned that the 7551 is for aftermarket amps and speakers.
Thanks for replying.

7551 gets a lot of noise through it. it works well on SOME nissans but not all. the G and the 7551 don't work so well together with the bose amp. without the amp though I dunno cuz all the Gs I've worked on have had the bose system. as for the mute wire. The bluetooth is good and does all the muting and pausing itself I dunno why it even comes with the unit.

Guys, I have the 8120 installed finally, and I get a lot of static and other crappy noises when using the BT to my iPhone to call. I have upgraded the BT firmware to 1.61, but still same issue. I have the BOSE stock setup from 2005 except the HU. I set my BT to push the incoming call through the front right speaker. Anyone experienced this? Its so bad that its useless. I googled a lot and noone seems to have an issue with incoming voice, but rather than the outgoing (that's heard on the other end).
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Ben
