Adding aftermarket amplifier via LOC

i just installed a Memphis amp to run focal speakers.

my installer said that the original wires attached to the Bose Amp do not have a wire that will "power up" when the radio is turned on.

he had to run the remote wire "light blue/silver" to the amp, but this means the amp will always turn whe the ignition is in the ACC or On position, even if the radio is not turned on, resulting in a hum in the speakers.

is there a wire that will only turn on the amp when the headunit is turned on?

My amp only turns on when the HU is turned on. It might be a HU thing. Mine doesn't send signal down the Light blue/silver wire unless the power is on.

The wiring diagram shows a Light Blue wire into the Bose amp connector for remote turn on. It connects to pin # 31 of the Bose connector.

This is for the coupe.

The wiring scheme can be found on page AV-Audio-07 of the service manual.

BTW the wire is "green with a yellow stripe" out of the back of the HU. It meets a junction somewhere, where it changes to Light Blue.

My old Bose amp, and my newer Phoenix Gold amp used this same lead, and do not stay on unless the HU is on.

Yes, the light blue wire is the remote wire, although I don't think it ever powers off when the radio is switched off (only when the whole car is turned off). I don't get any sound or hum when the radio is off though. You might try lowering your gains (and increase LOC output, if possible) a bit if you get too much noise when there should be none.

You know I noticed the same thing on mine. I have the sedan. I hooked up my amps using the wiring diagram that showed the remote turn on lead (not sure which color it is...it was awhile ago). My amps stay powered up as well....and occasionally I do get a little hum in the speakers.

I'll have to check mine again...I can honestly say I didn't notice it...and haven't heard a hum. I guess I just assumed it was off (hearing nothing to the contrary).

I'll look this evening when I get my car back (7500 mi service, and front chin today, woo hoo!).

Re: Adding aftermarket amplifier via LOC

As a side note, on my last car, I ran the remote turn on lead through a small switch I mounted on the bottom of my dash. That way, on the rare occasions I didn't want to run my sub and rear speakers, I could turn the amp off.
