My Video Switch DVD pics

After spending a year planning this; patiently waiting for the PAC aux input to be tested and ready, I finally installed my AVelectronic video switcher/PAC input/and DVD/Mp3 player myself. The DIY info on this forum and others made it too easy - I'm glad I did not pay cartunes $300.00 for labor.

Re: My Video Switch DVD pics

I am currently loading my pics on image station. Here's the summary. On the lower center console, I removed the hazard button and the flip up tray and installed the DVD/MP3 player. I also had to cut part of the plastic backing that hold up the HVAC and push the metal support bar back. Installed the PAC aux adapter and mounted the video switcher under the passengers seat. Next, while the center console was removed, I mounted the on/off button which switches the screen from NAV to Videoswitcher inside the ashtray. I did this so that I can discretely turn it on or off at my leisure and no unauthorized user can mess around with it.

It did take me take me about 6 hours start to finish, although it took about 45 minutes to actually hook everything up. Once I hit the on switch and saw the BAD Boyz II playing, I crack open a beer and watched about an hour of it. The I put in lord of the rings II and watched it with another beer. The farenheight DVD Mp3 player I bought on ebay for 80.00 : it does have last scene memory, but you have to physically turn off the DVD player before turning off the car (I tapped the 12v power lead off of the cigarette lighter).

the sound is good with the PAC aux input; although it's not as loud as the other inputs on the Bose system. I have to crank the volume up to 26, but it sounds great.

Re: My Video Switch DVD pics

There's not many parts that you need. After you purchase the video switcher, the next item you need is the dvd source. Try doing an ebay search for car dvd players, you should find some good ones for around 100.00. I paid 80 for mine. Just make sure the DVD player has last position memory so that when you turn it off before you get out of the car to get gas, you can get back in and turn it back on and it will still be at the same part of the movie you were watching.

you can buy some wire taps from home depot or radio shack to provide 12v power to both the video switch and the dvd player. Then you need some wire terminals to find a good ground to use, I used one of the bolts underneath the center console for my ground after scraping away the paint.

there's not very many parts needed for the mod; if you wanted to use a ps2 or xbox, you can hard wire an ac/dc converter.

That looks good!!! I haven't seen many installs with the DVD mounted so conveniently. You didn't mention that you had the avelectronics unit.... did you need the avelectronic unit for the install?

You might want to get a line booster for the sound. I have a DVD player installed on mine... and the sound is pretty much at the same level as the CD player and the radio. I've got the PAC converter with the avelectronic unit also

That's where I was going to install my Toastmaster 2-Slice Automatic Toaster, but then I was thinking, I don't really like toast that much.

Let's see how much more can be crammed into a G35 console. I was thinking that sometimes I might need to launder a shirt when I'm away from home.....

Re: My Video Switch DVD pics

you can mount it anywhere out of site if you want. The innovatek dvd player has a remote sensor that you can mount anywhere, and comes with a nice/handy remote control

The farenheit dvd player also has a remote sensor so you can mount it anywhere. I just wanted to be able to change the dvd or mp3 disc while driving. With the remote sensor you can order the PAC-SWi-x so you can use the steering wheel and cd buttons (1-6) to control the dvd player. I just ordered mine last week.
