Factory Navigation Installation
Factory Navigation Installation
Does anybody know where the thread is for the guy who installed the factory navi into a non navi G35? I saw it somewhere about a week ago, it had pictures and was pretty detailed. I've been looking everywhere and I can not find it again. Thanks!

Thanks for those links. Those are definitely helpful, but I did find a different one before that was pretty good. Anyways, I'm leaning more towards going with a Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT. It just seems like an extreme PITA to install the factory nav. Plus I like the additional features the AVIC will provide. We'll see.

^^ im sure it is a pita but i'm pretty sure at this point that im going to try it and when i do i will do a diy!!! but dont expect it for about 4-5 months i have been studying the navi schematic and on paper it doesn't look hard but im sure it's different once i get in there and start tearing stuff apart.
Comparing the factory nav to the one you can have by even picking up an older model AVIC-D1, blows the factory navi away. You're installing a unit with map data that is already 5+ years old. Go with an indash unit for sure. It's like saying "I want to install windows 95 on my computer". Not to mention the unit locks out the ability to enter or edit address information while the car is moving, which at first doesn't seem to be a big deal, until you are at a slow creep in barely moving traffic and you want to find an alternate route. That = extreme frustration lol.
I've had plenty of time to play with both

Are you using the AVIC-Z1? If so, how is the sound compared with the Bose? The stereo sucked in my last car, and I think the Bose sounds pretty good. If the AVIC's sound better than the Bose, then I'll be very happy.

^^ This looks good to me.... I think this is the solution for me.

^ I think most people here will tell you that you notice a better quality sound by upgrading your speakers than using a different HU...but im sure you will notice that it sounds better than the factory headunit im just saying you will notice a big difference if you replace your speakers and your headunit and an even bigger on if you get rid of the bose amp and go aftermarket..
for a dd conversion you need
jdm dash
jdm a/c controller
pac audio module to keep your steering wheel controls if compatible
metra 7550 or 7551 harness
antenna adapter
back-up camera if you want it
ipod cable if you want it also
someone correct me if im wrong it could be different for 07
