JL 500/1 and ???
Just a few questions and curious to see what some comments you have on some things. My big mod that I am in the process of right now is my system, but not exactly sure where to go with it. I went to one of the only audio stores in town (the best of the two) and got a quote on the following.
jl 500/1 amp-$599
jl 8 inch w7- $399
box for the sub- $299
wires $99
install $100
Total after tax $1604.
Personally to me this seems too much, especially for the box. I went ahead and ordered the amp offline for $429, so that knocked off some there.
Next question. I know that I'm defiantly going with the 500/1 amp, but do you guys think a 8w7 would be best, or would a 10w6 work better for our car? I definatly want something clean that is going to sound good.
Just wondering if you all had any suggestions about anything. My amp should come in within the next day or two, so I'd like to kinda have an idea of what I should get when it comes. Thanks for any help, and sorry for the long email.

Re: JL 500/1 and ???
I'm building my system now and it looks fairly similar to yours. My comments:
500/1 - good choice. I bought the same thing. I got it for $550 at authorized dealer - so I get the warranty. $429 online is a good deal if you live without 1 or 2 year warranty
jl 8w7 - I went with the 10w7 - spent $450 for it. The 500/1 is a perfect match for the 10w7, as the specs say 500 watts-10w7 sweet spott. You might be overpowering the 8w7 with the 500/1....
Box - sounds about right. I bought the Justice/Drew box for about the same.
wires/install - sounds about right - and actually, the install seems pretty cheap (my installer is $45/hour- but he isn't a 17 year old working at a chain store)
Couple things:
- dynomat - you might need it for your trunk or you are gonna get rattle. I bought 72 square feet of extreme. 28-32 square feet will dynomat you trunk completely (I haven't done my doors yet).
- stock speakers - Right now I'm worried about the crappy 6x9s and front mid/tweets. I promised myself I wouldn't spend more money, but already I'm scouting for some new door speakers. I think i might use my punch 400a4 (holdover from old car) to power either my stock bose (if I can do that) or the new ones. I think I can use the amp to take out the bass for my fronts and 6x9s with the internal crossover - but still doing my research on that issue (feel free to answer if anyone else knows if I can do this).
Hope the above gives some additional insight

For a 500/1 my vote is for the 10W6-V2 or the 10W7. Listen to both and see which one you like better.

Re: JL 500/1 and ???
Just an update on my system.. I finally got my car back today from the shop, and I could not be more impressed. I decided to go with the 10 inch w7 with my 500/1 amp. It sounds amazing. I also went ahead and had them dynamat the trunk and I cant believe the difference that makes. I will post pics as soon as I can for everyone to see. The box is pretty nice I think. They built it to stretch across my trunk like a wall and embroidered an infiniti symbol into the box.
Thanks again to everyone with your help while picking out this system.
