So what's the ultimate solution for mounting a Garmin Nuvi 200w navigation system in the cubby so it can be opened and closed without removing the navi? The casperselectronics NAV mount plate is no longer available? The GPScity mounts (and similar) don't work?

Just got a 2007 6-speed coupe in immaculate shape, so I want to mount the Garmin cleanly and stock looking. Want to keep the car looking good for a long time.

I used the RAM-HOL-GA22 and bolted it in 45 degree. It works fine for my 2004 coupe. I mounted the Garmin 775t. I can open and close it without problems.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up making a mount using a deconstructed ball catch plate (available at Lowes or Home Depot), the sawed off end of my Garmin suction mount (the ball plus about a centimeter stem), epoxy, then mounted with double stick tape.

It worked nicely except that I can't open and close the cubby with the Garmin mounted or the Garmin bracket vertical (have to rotate it horizontal with the Nuvi removed). I think it's because I have the Nuvi 200W, which has a higher profile, thicker mounting bracket (i.e., the front of the ball mount to the front of the GPS unit is a bigger distance than the Nuvis with the slimmer mounts or cradle mounts.

Can you rotate yours left, right, up and down? Could you post a picture?

See the pictures. I also use th Garmin 755t as mp3 player so that I don't use the CD player any more. I also install the PAC AAI-NIS2 for the aux input. The sound from the Garmin sounds really good in addition to the Navigation use. I still can barely close the cubby door so that no one can see it.

I would have put the holes for the power/audio wires in a less visible position, but this is definitely something more people looking for a navigation solution should consider.

I couldn't think of a better place to locate the holes for those wires. Once I mount the navi, the hole is not visible at all from any directions. The cradle would cover the hole.

Thanks for your comments.

I successfully installed my Garmin in the cubby of '05 G Sedan tonight using the mount from GPS City.

I have a Garmin 1490t which has a 5" screen, instead of the 4.3" screen the other models in this thread have. I was afraid it might be too big, but it turns out it fits perfectly, the door open and closes with the GPS attached. And if installed in the right spot, you can actually use the bottom of the Cubby to lock the door open using the bottom of the GPS resting on the bottom front lip of the cubby.

Very easy install.

The last thing left to do is to hide the power adapter by having it come in through the cubby instead of up through the front.

Overall a great mod and clean! No suction cup mount

Took some pictures the other day, finally got around to putting them up.

You can see them on Flickr here:

This is the part number of the mount I ordered from GPS City:

RAM Mount Garmin G-Ball Cradle Connector RAM-HOL-GA22U
Model: RAM-HOL-GA22U SKU:RAMHOLGA22

I installed it per the pictures from earlier in the thread, for the GPS to mount straight you have to install the GPS mount with one screw at an angle.

It's been great ... At some point, I'll take the dash apart and run the power cord into the pocket so it's completely integrated.

Hm. Now I'm considering doing this with the about-to-be-released Nuvi 2360, instead of spending $1k+ to do the DD conversion/navigation swap

I think I'm actually going to do this. Gonna order tmrw (assuming GPS City receives it in stock) the new Garmin Nuvi 2360, order that shallow mount, the power cord (
Amazon Amazon
) and then pray that I can sucessfully navigate the wire from the center console plug to the cubby.

Did you guys (specifically "luckyg35")just use the screws that came with the mount? and just drilled it right into the plastic with a screwdriver?

I got some requests for photos of the RAM mount without GPS attached and finally took some today while I had the dash apart to finally hide the power cable to the GPS by cutting a hole in the side of the cubby for the power cable.

Please see this Flickr set for all the photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/surferg...57625781689364
