JL 12w7 and 500/1

Just tested it out in my car. I need to get a custom enclosure b/c it won't fit my trunk.

1) Any1 know how if by taking out the spare I can get it properly mounted and fitted in my car? its lik 15-16" tall

2) Any1 running the same setup? Can you tell me the settings, I don't feel like getting a voltmeter and stuff

3) BOSE SUCKS! What should I replace the front two speakers with and which amp should I use to power it? Please a recommend a cheaper amp that I prolly buy used cuz i just spent $400 on the w7 + enclosure!

Thanks!

EDIT ********I DO NOT WANT TO BUY a 1000/1 AT THE MOMENT! THE 500/1 is perfectly fine! the 500/1 runs abt 700 while the optimal performance for the 12w7 is around 700. check the site! http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...es_id=9*******

i think those w7's will need a little more than 500 watts. their RMS is 1000 or something.

no thanks. the 1000/1 only adds lik 2-3%. not worth the upgrade.

In terms of the electrical system, it won't handle a 1000/1 without mods. The 1000/1 has a 120 amp fuse IIRC. Your stock alternator is rated at 110 amps. I had my alt tested and it put out around 126 amps. Your's may be stronger or weaker but it'll be a minimum of 110 amps. Therefore, if the alt was just powering the amp, it will probably fall short. To compound the problem, your alt has to power the rest of your car.

The last time I looked into an upgraded alt, no one made one for the G. You may be able to have your's rewound but it only gives you more power up in the rev range and it'll suffer at lower rpms in most cases.

Have you thought of a 500/1 to power it instead? With 500 watts, you'll get around ~92% of a 12w7's potential. With a 1000/1, you'll only get around 95-96%. The extra drain is not worth it IMO.

If it was me, I'd throw TWO 1000/1's to the W7...then again I'm a bit crazy, whats new...

As for an amp for the fronts, here's a good buy:
