Aftermarket HU with stock Navi

I just ordered the Pioneer P4200 and i have the stock navi still installed into my car, 1 of the guys that does custom work told me he would have to remove the navi to install the head unit bc its a double din. I was just wondering if there was anyway to work around this?

Yeah, the workaround is to not listen to that guy.

The only thing you'll lose is the navi voice.

Do you have an 03/04 or 05/06?

Either a lot of installers assume that our navi is tied to the stock stereo more than just throwing the voice at it, or a some shady installers remove stock navigation to resell, claiming it had to be removed.

I don't really mind losing the navi's voice, i hate it when it cuts off the music while im jammin anyways. Is there anything i need before i install this head unit? I hear i need some sort of steering cables or something? and would i need to change the amps for my head unit? (Pioneer P4200).. btw my car is an 05

If you want pics of completed installs with DD + Navi, here's the thread for you.
https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-v...din-setup.html

Show it to that installer and if an excuse starts to come of his mouth, fill it with your fist.

I'm trying to find an 05/06 with both to add to the collection.

So long as you use the proper harness (70-7551 for Bose, 70-7550 for non-Bose) you're fine.

And you need a steering wheel controls adapter (PAC SWI-???) to match the brand of headunit you put in.

P4200 installed in my car. I don't have navi so I don't have to worry. More pics at my thread. https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-v...ml#post4983236

Twilight, did you ever fill that gap?

That looks like a fine source there.

Umm, i got my kit from Riverside infiniti in california at an excellent price, quick shipment and great service. They are sponsers on here, search for tony at riverside infiniti. Next question, the unit? The unit is freakin awesome, i'm in love with it, i drive my car for no reason but just so i can enjoy it. It supports all these various formats burned onto disks, divx, avi, on dvd's and CD's. Plays DVDS. Plays all of it off of usb based drives and has an SD slot. Is ipod ready if you buy the cable with an on screen ipod type toggle, touch screen of course. Was designed for the iphone too, you can stream your pandora right on the unit. Has Navi, bluetooth, HD radio and sirius upgradability options with accessories. It's got a LOT and i mean a LOT of possibilities of however you wish to use it. Whatever you like. I was able to fit 70 music videos in AVI format on a single DVD. Burned it as a Data DVD with no menu's or anything and still had space on the disc and the unit played it all with ease. The unit also recognizes images. You can go through your jpegs and photos like you would your computer and choose a single image at a time you want your unit to save and use it as your background. The list goes on. As for the gap underneath. The units design with the bottom out where the buttons are really hides it well. It's not that noticable to begin with. But I will probably eventually at some point trim underneath. The unit is becoming a project itself, I want to keep adding stuff. So far the DVD bypass and amp kit is done. Next up is gonna be the bluetooth module and PAC steering wheel control interface. Then maybe after that i'll see if i want to add the navi and worry about trimming it up a little. Freakin thing is like modding the car.

Just look at this video, This is how you pull of a DVD automatic bypass on the unit. So you can play a video on it while in drive.
I figured it all out on my own. I've installed like 5 or 6 head units before but all you need to do is get the right harness like he said and you should be fine. The unit is a little big so when you take it to install it in the JDM kit, work with it gently until you get it in the slot on either side. You'll get it in. You might have to use a tool or something. If you have bose, this unit retains good sound quality. especially if you turn down the bass and run subs for your bass. good luck.

It does cost a bit to do it right. The 7551 harness had two grounds. One was labeled ground and one was labeled amp ground. I didn't use either one and tied them off and connected nothing to them. I grounded the unit to the car. My speakers came on anyways so i'm figuring they were both just grounds for the previous unit and the wire called amp ground wasn't needed to ground the bose amp in the car. When you're installing if you're using the 7551 then you're using bose. Make sure your RCA's are plugged into the right slots in the back. Adjust your fader and make sure it produces sound on the correct speakers. Front right and left, rear right and left. Do you have dual zone AC controls in your car? If you do, you're going to need to do some soldering on the JDM AC controller to retain that function.
